On the east coast of Mauritius, 1km south from Belle Mare village, lays the picturesque beach Palmar. Palmar, like Le Morne on the south coast, is world renowned for being an incredibly beautiful beach offering a wide variety of watersports. Both destinations are must see kitesurf, SUP, and surf destinations. The kiting at Belle Mare offers beautifully flat and uncrowded water inside a closed turquoise lagoon with no currents or boat traffic. 

What sets the east coast of Mauritius apart from many other destinations is the variety of organised downwinders. The east coast is the perfect place to go on a downwinder as the combination of flat water and waves to kite on throughout the journey, along with the crystal clear waters will keep you mesmerised.

Surrounded by a crystal clear lagoon in the Indian Ocean, is the secluded island of Rodrigues. The small, windy island is located around 400 miles off the coast of Mauritius. The entire island is only 5 miles by 11 miles, but for miles there is perfectly flat shallow water. Whilst on the outside, the reefs are constantly battered by the oceans swells. The flatness of the lagoons water makes this an absolute speed paradise, and is regularly described as the fastest place on the planet.

To get to Rodrigues, you need to take a connection in Mauritius where we have two other amazing kitesurf destinations, Le Morne which is great for flat water, and has some of the world most renowned waves. The other is Belle Mare which is another flat water paradise, and offers some amazing downwinders. Planet Kitesurf introduced Northern Mauritius following an increased demand for an alternative to the most famous spot of Le Morne, in the south of the island, and Belle Mare in the West. Although we regard Le Morne as one of the best kitesurf locations in the world, it can get quite busy, especially in high season. So if you want to enjoy the amazing wind conditions and atmosphere of Mauritius, but with far fewer kiters on the water, Anse Le Raie in Northern Mauritius is worth a look. Another strong selling point for this part of Mauritius is the big range of amenities, shopping, and nightlife that can be found a short drive away in Grand Baie.

Bel Ombre is a beautiful beach resort located in the south-west of Mauritius that still has the atmosphere of authentic Mauritius. The kite spot here is perfectly located at the end of Bel Ombre, right in front of the Beach Club. This spot suits all kitesurfing levels.

The spacious lagoon has flatwater, as well as waves further out at the reef. This is the perfect spot for all kitesurfers as it offers a range of good quality but affordable hotels and the Bel Ombre Kitesurf Centre. The close proximity to the main kitesurf beach and resort amenities suit holidaymakers travelling with non-kiting partners or families.

Pointe d'Esny is situated on the South East coast of Mauritius. Boasting the island’s whitest stretch of beach, and located a mere 15-minutes drive from the airport, Pointe d'Esny offers a secluded, peaceful, location in one of Mauritius' untouched areas. Offering a tropical paradise setting, fit for any postcard, this part of Mauritius boasts the largest lagoon on the island. Not far away is the charming historical village of Mahebourg, however, the real charm of Pointe d'Esny is that it is located away from the crowds and commercial resorts found elsewhere in Mauritius.

The large flat water lagoon, with its light to moderate winds, provides a haven for foilers and those who want to learn how to kite foil.
