The resort of Dahab is just over an hour away by road transfer from Sharm airport. Planet Kitesurf offer unique kitesurf holidays to Dahab with a combination of 4 and 5 star hotels set on a beautiful flat water lagoon with easy access to 3 different kitesurf zones. Dahab is a good choice of kitesurf holiday resort if you are looking for a beautiful water sports resort away from the bigger tourist resorts. This location works well for families and couples as well as single travellers.
The hotels that Planet Kitesurf offer in Dahab are mostly based around a large lagoon which is the main watersports area of Dahab. Around 20 mines by taxi the small area of Masbat offers a good range of inexpensive option for eating out.
New for this year is we now have a new kitesurf location in Dahab called Eldorado, just the other side of Masbat village, so around 20 mins in a taxi from the lagoon. Here you can stay at the Eldorado Hotel and then kitesurf directly off the beach.
"Just wanted to say thanks for a great holiday – it was great. 6 days of wind out of 7, great kit, and a great sailing area. Thanks for all your advice and organising."
Very good good normal bad
During the winter months of November to March the Red Sea coastal spots of Egypt offer a very comfortable 22 - 28 c, perfect for a little of winter sun. As you head into the summer months the temperature rises steeply, peaking to around 40c in August! However, the high temperatures are made more comfortable with very low humidity and a constant seas breeze. During the winter months we would recommend between 7 and 5 mm wetsuit but then only a 3mm shortie for the mid summer months.
Dahab was for a long time exclusive to windsurfers with only a very small tidal kitesurf lagoon. Planet Kitesurf now offer access to 4 brilliant kitesurf areas in the area making Dahab a diverse frist rate kitesurf destinations:
Main Lagoon: The very large main lagoon is windsurf only form 1000 to 1700 but before and after this time kitesurfers can get in some great sessions
Small Lagoon: a short walk from the hotels on the main lagoon there is a small tidal lagoon which is a perfect flat shallow water spot for learners. This is tidal.
Bay View: Planet have a permanent Kitesurf school based on the beach of the Bay View Hotel which us around 10 minutes by speed boat from the main lagoon.
Eldorado (NEW): Planet now have a new kitesurf school based around 20 minutes drive from our hotels offering an amazing new area with both flat water and some small waves.
At the majority of the kitesurf spots in Dahab the wind blows side to side-one shore. In the mini lagoon it is cross-off shore so you can end up on a small reef. However, most of this lagoon is very shallow and safe.
The wind in Dahab tends to be at it's best in the morning but can blow into the afternoon during the high wind summer months.
There are two main areas to stay in Dahab: the Lagoon or Masbat (the local beach front town). We work only with hotels on the Lagoon as in Masbat the standard of accommodation is very poor. On the Lagoon you will find several excellent 4 and 5 star hotels.
With the hotel standard around the lagoon generally being very fairly high, there is lots of pampering on offer, especially for non windsurfing partners to indulge in. The Red Sea is one of the worlds best scuba diving destination, where you will find several schools running courses for all levels. Or snorkelling is also a must, with various deserted bays boasting some stunning underwater sights.
Alternate land activities are Yoga, Belly Dancing, Quad Biking, Camel Rides, Bicycle Hire, Tai Chi, and visiting the luxurious spas
Other watersports available with a Dahab windsurfing holiday are Kitesurfing, Diving, waterskiing, and wakeboarding. You can’t get better conditions for wake boarding and waterskiing for when the wind doesn’t blow, with water so flat, it’s definitely something to take advantage of.
A trip out into the desert at night to a Bedouin Village for dinner and some stargazing is an interesting way to spend the evenings. Or there are lots of bars and restaurants to relax at in Dahab. You could head into Masbat which is an exotic blend of Bedouins, Egyptians and Backpackers.
Dahab has some of the most perfect conditions available for teaching kids. The early morning light winds, and specialised kids equipment mean they will be up and going in no time. With the wind increasing throughout the day, kids can also start windsurfing in slightly stronger winds, so they’ll be pro in no time.
