Playa del Carmen, also called "Playa" by the locals, is a beautiful beach-side city located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea and in the heart of the Mayan Riviera. The city is about 45 min south of famous Cancun and about 4 hours north of the Belize-Mexico border.
Playa Del Carmen used to be a small and very quiet Fishing village only ever crossed by tourists to reach the famous Scuba Diving reefs in Cozumel Island. Today, Playa del Carmen is the main city of the "Riviera Maya" with hourly ferries crossing to Cozumel, Cruiseships stopping at Calica on their way to Central and South America and the world famous "Quinta Avenida", a 40 block long Pedestrian walkway with hundreds of Restaurants, Shop, Bars, and nightclubs.
Just south of the main urban area is "Playacar", a residential and tourist development where most of the All Inclusive Resorts will be found. Which is where our kitesurfing centre is found, at the Sandos Playacar Resort.

December to May is the best time of the year to visit Playa del Carmen. The weather is lovely and you can expect 4/5 days a week of perfect wind conditions for Kiteboarding ranging from 14 - 20 knots.
When the "Nortes" start blowing, the wind turns offshore. Called the Nortes as some North cold front comes from the USA each time bringing 2/3 days straight of North wind blowing 25 to 35 knots. When this happens, the kite school take their clients to Isla Blanca for the day, which is great for beginners and advanced riders.
