OVERVIEW
Lagos is the heart of the west Algarve and beautifully retains its small town charm. Ideally situated just under an hour from Faro airport Lagos is also the terminal of the Algarve railway. Lagos has its own modern marina, beach cafes, golf courses and within its ancient walls lies a network of bars, restaurants, year round entertainment and a bustling nightlife to suit everyone.
Lagos may be the hub of many of our activities on offer but the unspoilt natural park which follows the south coast to Sagres (the end of the world) all the way up along the dramatic west coast, hosts a multitude of scenic dirt tracks, quaint villages, secluded beaches and inspiring cliffs, all worth a visit if you're not already staying there.
Algarve weather and landscape -
- 300 days of sun per year
- Few days with less than 15° water temperature in wintertime
- Untapped nature

Beautiful towns with great party scene and rural villages
THE SPOT
Long dunes and lagoons are abundant on the east coast, the central coast is rich in sheltered beaches and picturesque rock faces, while sharp cliffs and big waves rule in the west. When conditions allow, however, it's possible to kite surf almost anywhere along the Algarve coast, providing you can find enough beach space.
The Algarve is hugely popular, and not just with kite surfers. The massive appeal to kiters and surfers alike in the Algarve is that there are simply so many options for riding. If you find one beach is rammed (which can be difficult to imagine with such big and open beaches) with either other water users or beach goers, then drive a further five minutes down the road and it's likely you'll find somewhere much quieter, but equally fun and rewarding.
All levels of board riders will find something, from big winter wave riding at spots like Carrapateira, right through to flat water cruising in the summer afternoon lagoons that form at Alvor. You can even get a boat to Ria Formosa to explore the island chains littered with sandbanks, lagoons and alleyways that head to the open ocean. The secret is to be flexible and take advantage of the varied conditions.

THE WIND
The south west tip of Portugal offer unique conditions for all kinds of Watersports and outdoor activities. No other place in Europe allows regularly surfing great waves in the morning and kiting steady wind in the afternoon. The “Nortada” the Portuguese north wind gets accelerated by the surrounding landscape which allows wind speed up to 20 knots while other parts of the Algarve are calm.
Expect anything from 12 to 35 knots and onshore to cross-offshore winds. The Algarve features all water conditions from butter flat ideal for learning, through to waves for the more experienced riders. The Western Algarves unspoilt natural coastline offers a variety of kitesurf spots to suit all levels of kitesurfers. Late Spring, Summer and Autumn are ideal times to visit and the Summer months are the best for consistent wind.
