Gokova Kitesurfing Holidays

placed in southern Turkey 1 hour from Dalaman, Gokova Bay is a dream kitesurfing location for all levels.

The town of Akyaka stretching from the sea up In to the surrounding hillside, is built in the traditional style of the area which has a Swiss chalet feel.  Although just a little town it is a popular Turkish holiday area which gives it a real local vibe and very welcoming feel.

Seven rivers run in to the bay, which make the water extremely clear and very unsalty! And with no permanent building allowed on the coast there are very few such pristine kiting spots with an fabulous local kite school available.

Due to its unique location in the middle of a deep valley facing to the west, even when the Meltemi is not blowing, The mounts surrounding the bay heat up in the summer sun and create a wonderfully constant, reliable thermal wind. Generally the wind starts to kick in around 11 am so you can have a leisurely morning and then kite till sunset!

 

Gökova Bay has all the space you need!  Turkey is still extremely undiscovered by international kite boarder’s giving you the perfect chance to advance at your own pace in your own space!

With a width of 3km’s and shallow water for 150m out, the bay is suitable for all levels of riders.  There are no obstacles such as trees, buildings or rocks and with seven rivers entering the bay the water is clear, clean and not very salty!!

The coast is a 10 to 15 minute drive from Akyaka and only accessible by car.  There is a little area designated for sunbathers, however there are currently no amenities at the coast.  There are a couple of shops as you turn off the main road, so if you need anything stock up here or in town before you head to the beach.

The town of Akyaka has several hotels and apartments. So depending on your party you can either stay with other kiters at Always WIndy house or opt for one of the astounding boutique style hotels on the riverside.-
 

In the unlikely event of a non windy day or for those who do no partake in events on the water this is an astounding area to explore. There are great mount bike routes and trails or if you prefer to explore a little further then we can arrange car rental for you. This whole coastline is incredible!

There are many boat trips that you can take from the marina along the coast or on the river.. great on a hot day!

For a high days shopping Marmaris is worth the drive and a walk around the marina to check out the yachts and gulets is definitely recommended.

Akyaka has some wonderfull restaurants serving a wide variety of both Turkish and other European dishes. You must try one of the fish restaurants on the river as they have the local fishing of the day!

A couple of the local bars can get pretty lively as the local beer Efes is very palatable..

This area is not really for the big party people but you can aways travel to Marmaris for a wild night, or to sample the atmosphere  in one of the marina restaurants.

UK / EU passport holders should have a full 10 year passport valid until at least 6 months after date of return. A visa is required and UK passport holders can purchase this on arrival for £10.00. Other passport holders please check with the Turkish Consulate (09068 347 348). 

There are no compulsory inoculations if travelling from the UK but we recommend to check with your GP for the latest advice.

This spot is wonderfull for older children to learn to kitesurf as it is so safe. For other children if they are happy performing on the beach or in the water then bring them along to the kite spot. If they need other entertainment then it's best they stay behind at the hotel or on the beach in Akyaka so the installations are all just a short walk away.
