Ceylon Tea Trails

4* Ceylon Tea Trails, Sri Lanka

All Inclusive

Upon arrival at the airport you will be escorted by Cinnamon Air and fly away to the hill country.

Ceylon Tea Trails

The world’s first tea bungalow resort, Ceylon Tea Trails is an icon for small luxury resorts. Comprising of five restored colonial era tea planter residences, the period furnishings, gracious butler service and gourmet cuisine create an ambience that has made Tea Trails the gold standard for luxury bungalows in Sri Lanka. Situated at an altitude of 1250 metres near Hatton in central Sri Lanka, the resort borders the World Heritage Central Highlands and offers breathtaking panoramas of mountains and lush tea fields. Each bungalow is unique and exudes its own exquisite ambience.

You are entitled to any two massages (preferably one per day) during your stay.

Things to do while at Tea Trails

Tea Experience - The Resident Tea Planter will demonstrate the age-old tea making process. First, follow the trail of the planters of old Ceylon, as they trekked through the dense jungle looking for the best slopes on which to plant tea. Then on to watch the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands. Then to the factory where the all-important conversion to “made” black tea happens. The machinery used is of very traditional British design, some as old as 100 years. The process is a very artisanal one, unchanged for a century. The daily complimentary group tour ends with a tasting of different grades of this great brew. Together with tea-infused cuisine, tea based spa treatments and trekking trails that traverse tea-blanketed hills, you can literally lose yourself in tea. You will leave Tea Trails with a newly found appreciation of this wonder herb “Camellia Sinensis” & the terroir of Ceylon Tea.

Walks - A leisurely walk or an adventure trek is a delightful way to experience the varied landscapes, exotic flora, abundant birdlife and the sweet rhythm of life in a tea garden. Take in vistas of mountain lakes, manicured tea gardens, forests and doll’s house villages. A guide can be provided or self-walk on the marked trails which are selected for varying levels of ability. Many of the guests walk from one Tea Trails bungalow to another for a meal or cup of tea.

Mountain Biking - Ceylon Tea Trails has opened up a world of adventure and discovery in the Bogawantalawa Valley at an altitude of over 1500 metres. The unspoilt beauty of the surrounding valleys and hills are a great biking experience. Mountain bikes are available in the bungalows for complimentary use.

White Water Rafting - After coming off the slopes of Adam’s Peak, the clear waters of the Kelani River wind their way through the Hill Country of inland Sri Lanka before emptying into the Indian Ocean. The put in for rafting is just upstream from Kithulgala, a small town in the tea country. After a safety briefing and a few pointers on rafting technique, jump right into the action. Seven high quality, class II and III rapids and temperate waters make the Kelani a premier introduction to the sport of whitewater or an exciting choice for experienced rafters. The river hosts rapids between grades 2 and 3, with the rafting stretch approximately 6.5 kilometers in length, and taking between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to complete, depending on water levels.

Galle Fort

4* Amangalla, Sri Lanka

Full Board

After breakfast check out and take the seaplane to Koggala and ground transfer to Galle.

Amangalla

A stately grande dame in the city of Galle on Sri Lanka’s south coast, Amangalla has the period charm of a bygone era. Built in 1684, the historic edifice retains its heritage in every architectural and decorative detail. Polished teak floorboards date back to the building’s origins, and the interiors are decorated with antiques that span centuries. The windows look out over the 36-hectare hexagonal stone fort or the property's mature gardens. Galle Fort's tumultuous history spans more than 400 years; the streets are lined with old houses, their verandas still in use every afternoon. Set within its ramparts, Amangalla is an integral part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You are entitled to any two massages (preferably one per day) during your stay.

Things to do while at Amangalla

- Meet up with an expert resident in the UNESCO Galle Fort who will take you around this magical enclosed living heritage city showing you the hidden gems and explaining about the lifestyles of the people. This will be a real hands-on experience where you will get a real idea of how the Portuguese, Dutch and the British have left their mark on Sri Lanka and how their descendants are living inside the Dutch Fort.

- Drive to the Mirissa harbour to get on board your boat for a session of whale watching where you will have the chance to witness blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphins. You will have an air conditioned cabin with a bathroom along with a lounge area for relaxation as well. ** Only from end October to early April every year

- Visit the Virgin White Tea Plantation. 4000 years ago the Chinese emperor employed virgins wearing soft silky gloves to cut the tea leaves with gold scissors into a golden bowl. It was a drink exclusively served in the Imperial court. Virgin White Tea is the rarest type of white tea, completely untouched by humans from the tea bush to production and until it reaches the lips of the consumer. You will visit this tea factory who’s entire production is bought by Mariage Freres International – Paris. The only other place in the world that this brand is available for purchase will be at the factory that you are visiting.

Cinnamon was discovered in Sri Lanka by Portuguese. They identified it is a wild tree, researching its benefits and designing a method to cultivate and harvest it. In time cinnamon cultivation and export became one of the country's prime assets as Sri Lanka produces 90% of world's supply of true cinnamon. This spice is used in both and savoury foods, has a highly fragrant aroma and is incredibly beneficial for health, frequently used in traditional ayurvedic remedies. Cinnamon isn't as well-known as its tea export counterpart. Cinnamon cultivation is a very unique process, also a scarcely known operation. It is truly a one of a kind experience that is both interesting and different.
