With quiet tranquil beaches, turquoise warm waters and a sunny climate for most of the year, Mozambique is that hidden escape just waiting to be discovered. The kitesurfing season is not as cut and dry or reliable as some of the more popular kitesurfing holiday destinations and as such, a kitesurfing holiday to Mozambique is best done by combing a number of different destinations to create a tour-style itinerary that will not only offer up a new spot every day but will also see you taking in all that this exquisite country has to offer.

Diamonds Mequfi
Located north of the city of Pemba at the top of Mozambique is a unique kitesurfing spot that is well worth the extra effort taken to get here. Opened just two years ago, the Diamonds Mequfi resort steel feels like new and the attention to detail is simply outstanding. This resort is located on a beautiful secluded beach and offers an unsurpassed level of luxury with large, beautifully appointed rooms. There is a small kitesurf school based at the beach and a good sized kite zone, although we do recommend taking along your own equipment if you can. The wind here generally blows onshore to cross-onshore and offers a shallow sandy bottom interspersed with sandbanks. One end of the beach can be quite wavy while the other is pretty flat, so it is good for a variety of skill levels. The best time to visit here is from May to August and during this wind season, whales are spotted daily just off the shoreline, so there is a good chance of having a whale encounter!
Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel
Bahia Mar is located just next door to the Vilanculos Kitesurf Centre and offers amazing value for money and great service. The hotel offers amazing spacious rooms and a gorgeous infinity pool with fantastic views, while a fantastic gym, spa and restaurant are located on site. Vilanculos is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway for outdoor adventure and underwater enthusiasts. The Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel is situated on the mainland of this small fishing village where world-renowned kite surfing opportunities, deep sea fishing, island visits with a traditional Dhow and numerous other attractions are on your doorstep. This is the ideal location for those looking to learn to kitesurf or push your kiteboarding skills to the next level in uncrowded waters while kitesurfing safaris to the various other spots in the area are available at the centre.
Azura Benguerra
Azura Benguerra offers a special luxury experience on an idyllic island in the Bazaruto archipelago. Just 20 villas are nestled along one of the last undiscovered stretches of beach in the world, with all the creature comforts you could wish for. Although there is no kitesurfing centre on site there are a variety of great spots dotted around the island and the resort is managed by a keen kitesurfer so the sport is definitely encouraged! You will need to take your own kit but the team at the resort’s water sports centre is more than willing to lend you a hand, taking you out in their boat to the best spots. Aside from kitesurfing on various spots on the islands you can also head down to your hotel’s water sports centre who will be happy to arrange scuba diving, snorkelling, dolphin and whale watching, canoeing, kayaking and sailing tours for you.
Casa Rex
Casa Rex offers an amazing budget-friendly option in Vilanculos. Located just a short walk from the kitesurf centre, overlooking the outstanding bay, each of the rooms at Casa Rex feature a sea view with their own private balconies or verandas. With just 15 en-suite rooms surrounded by lush tropical gardens, as well as a communal lounge and dining area as well as a fantastic swimming pool, the hotel offers a personalised feeling with friendly Mozambican service.
Anantara Medjumbe
Located within the Quirimbas archipelago in the northern reaches of Mozambique, Anantara Medjumber offers the ultimate in exclusivity and privacy in a remote tropical location. Offering just ten rooms, the resort gives the feeling of a private retreat and the beachy style rooms have breathtaking ocean views. This resort is all about relaxation and just getting away from it all and although there is no kitesurf school, when the wind blows, there are some great kiting spots on the island for the independent kiter.
