Anse La Raie
The sunny north, centred around emerald-green Grand Baie, has the greatest concentration of hotels, sandy coves and entertainment, from an interactive sugar museum to a submarine safari or tandem sky-dive. Pointe d’Esny
The south coast has sleepy fishing villages, deserted beaches and surf-pounded cliffs at a gap in the reef. Its attractions range from tortoise hatchings at La Vanille Nature Park to a mysterious meditation site, The Vortex. The sultry southeast boasts new resorts and a fantastic flat water spot that is kitefoiling heaven at Pointe dEsny. This region is the island’s most historic place, and includes the characterful ancient port capital of Mahébourg. When you are not enjoying kiting the butter-flat water here you can take powerboat trips to offshore islands and can also visit La Vallée de Ferney nature reserve, where the rare pink pigeon is now breeding in the wild.
Rodrigues
Mauritius’ neighbouring island, Rodrigues, is also one to watch. This secluded, small, windy island is located 400 miles off the coast of Mauritius and is a speed paradise with huge flat water lagoons.
