And so it was that our CEO set off on a whirlwind trip of Mozambique’s wild and rugged coastline for an amazingly adventurous getaway filled with cultural discoveries, private islands, luxurious hotels and, of course, magnificent kitesurfing. Having come back thoroughly tanned and gushing about how Mozambique is the stuff kitesurfer’s dreams are made of, here are just three of his recommended spots for your next kitesurfing holiday:

Vilanculos, Southern Mozambique

Southern Mozambique is a kitesurfer’s paradise and Vilanculos is the perfect starting point for a holiday to this unexpected country. This small fishing village offers a number of fantastic hotels, excellent bars and restaurants, while the fully equipped Vilanculos Kitesurf Centre is located right on the beach, next to the beautiful Bahia Mar boutique hotel. Whether you are already experienced or looking to learn to kitesurf, the flat, waist deep water offers the perfect playground for practicing your moves.

The sea conditions can vary from very calm to quite choppy, depending on the location, while the water temperature in the Indian Ocean varies from 23 to 29ºC. The best time to visit for wind sports is in the spring/summer months between August and December when the wind is most reliable.

Discovering a kitesurfer’s paradise in Southern Mozambique

The centre offers a range of courses to suit your skill level with top kitesurfing and SUPing equipment available to rent. You can also enjoy luxurious speedboat or dhow safaris around the islands to enjoy the various kitesurf spots on offer in the area.

The Bazaruto Archipelago, Southern Mozambique
