Red Bull King of the Air 2018

Returning to the beautiful Cape Town coast is the adrenaline-inducing kiteboarding contest, the Red Bull King of the Air. Watch as the best kitesurfers in the world face off to get the biggest airs. The contest will take place at Kite Beach in Blouberg and the waiting period begins on 27 January,  so get ready for some epic kitesurfing.

The riders will have a two-week weather window to go head to head. The organisers will make sure that the contest will only be run on days with the ultimate conditions. They will be looking for that strong south-easterly wind and some perfect swell that will allow the riders to boost some seriously extreme moves.

The riders competing in this year’s contest are the best of the best. The contest will see the top nine from last year and nine riders chosen from their video submissions competing for the title of King of the Air. So much extreme talent in one place can only mean some epic kitesurfing.

The location for this year contest has moved to the perfect kitesurf spot along Cape Towns coastline, Kite Beach in Blouberg. This location will offer the riders even more potential for boosting. Here they will find consistent wind speeds of up to 30 knots and some great swell that pulls into the coast.

The waiting period for the contest will run between 27 January to 11 February, this will allow the organisers to look for the perfect conditions. Riders will then be judged not only on how high into the sky they can get but also style, technique and that extra bit of fearless ambition.

This year’s contest is going to see the greatest display of kitesurfing ability. Last years winner, Nick Jacobsen is still coming down from his World Record highest tow out and is charged up to take the crown again, will he be able to hang on to it? Keep your eyes and ears open for when the contest is open and get down to Kite Beach to witness the greatest kitesurf contest in the world.
