kite.pride is a sustainable fashion label that’s all about being real, relevant and making an impact. This social impact business that offers safe employment for ex-victims of the sex industry. Their mission is to create the safe environment needed in order to develop competence, new skills, love, and self-confidence – as the base for a new healthy life. They do that by designing up-cycled bags made of reclaimed kitesurfing kites from the local and international community, which gives each product a unique design.

kite.pride adds value to high-performance materials that were heading for the trash and value to the lives of people in need of new hope. These trendy, lightweights, durable and beautiful products are also given free to every kitesurfer donating a broken kite! How cool is that?

The idea originated when Rebekka Federer, a young kitesurfer in Silvaplana Switzerland, began designing products out of broken kite sails and kite.pride was born. Since she wanted to have a bigger impact than “just upcycling” so she handed her idea over to Tabea and Matthias Oppliger, the owners of the NGO GlowbalAct and the social impact business A.I.R. Ltd. Since then they have been working on improving the design, the products and the range, with the goal of creating products everyone loves.

By creating jobs that boost people back into the workforce, kite.pride teaches their employees teamwork, reliability,
manufacturing, designing, and marketing while at the same time allowing them to work through past trauma. “I was born to make old and broken things beautiful,” one kite.pride employee told Tabea. “You have shown me how because you have made me whole and beautiful again.”
