Maui Kitesurf Holiday Overview
The Hawaiian Island Maui is more than one of the worlds best kitesurf destinations, it is home to some amazing conditions in a wide range of watersports, with a combination of flat water and waves.
A Maui kitesurf holiday offers something for everyone, although it is renowned for being one of the most awesome watersport destinations on the planet, it also provides many activities on land, such as hiking, driving some beautiful scenic coast roads, Island hopping, whale watching, on and off road cycling... the list goes on.
One of the most stunning features of this island is its diverse topography from Maui’s stunning beaches to lush waterfall laced forests, mountainous regions and open scrublands.
We highly recommend including some time during a holiday to Maui to explore some of the other islands of Hawaii which all have something unique and special to offer. Planet Travel specialise in tailor made tours so please ask for advice on a tailored itinerary when calling.
A Maui kitesurf holiday is best suited to couples or families with older children; this would also make for a perfect honeymoon destination.
Maui Kitesurf Spot
There’s a designated spot for kitesurfing, Kanaha Beach, also known as the “Kite Beach” due to the high number of kitesurfers that you can find there. The canoe practice area is located in the eastern part of the beach so it’s better to launch from the western side, even if you can kitesurf also the eastern part if you are more than 200 meters far from the shore.
Kitesurf Information
Kitesurf beginners take their lessons in this spot between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. (It’s prohibited to kitesurf before 11:00 a.m. as the early hours are reserved for beginner’s lessons, swimmers and divers).
The wind is known as “starboard tack”, which means that it blows from the right like in the south shores of the United Kingdom, and you don’t need to care about your wetsuit as waters are warm all year round.
Lifeguards are working from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., they have a wide knowledge about the sailing conditions, so they can give you good advice before you launch.
