Why you'll love Northern Sardinia

Why you'll love kitesurfing in Northern Sardinia!

Porto Pollo Kitesurfing Resort Overview

Sardinia is one of the most stunning islands in the Mediterranean. A hidden gem! For kitesurfers and non-kitesurfers alike you will find something here for everyone. With white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters as beautiful as the Caribbean, and only a short two hour flight away from the UK.

The kitesurfing beach at Porto Pollo is a small spot in a bay on the north coast of Sardinia, a short drive from the local harbour town of Pulau and around 40 minutes from Olbia airport. It is essential to have a car in Sardinia so all Planet Kitesurf Holidays come with pre-arranged car rental as part of your holiday arrangements.

As with all of our kitesurfing resorts we have spent considerable time and effort inspecting the resort, testing the conditions and ensuring we offer only the very best available accommodation and kitesurf centre services in this region. If you are considering a kitesurfing holiday to Sardinia then please call and speak to one of our expert kitesurf travel specialists so we can guide you to the right flights, hotel and kitesurf instruction, rental and safety cover services.

If you are travelling to Sardinia between June and August please book early as there is very limited accommodation options and they tend to be fully booked quickly in peak season.

The Kitesurf Area

Porto Pollo is a small spot in the bay on the north coast of Sardinia, a short stroll from our main accommodation and offers some of the best kitesurfing that the island has to offer. The first bay is a windsurf zone but a short walk down the beach brings you to the kitesurf area. The beach here can be quite narrow, so beginner training is done from small boats out in the bay where there is plenty of space. The dunes along the bay offer shelter to non-kitesurf partners looking to soak up some sun on the beach. There are also a couple of nice cafés and bars along the beach.

The Wind At Porto Pollo

Sardinia has four winds depending on the time of year. The Spring brings the Tramontana from North to East with 6 - 8 Beaufort. In the Summer the Poniente is South-west bringing 4-8 Beaufort, and in the Autumn the Scirocco from North Africa with 5-6 Beaufort, and occasionally up to Force 9.

Porto Pollo is located in the windiest point in Sardinia. The proximity to Corsica creates a funnel effect which brings winds that blow up to 8 Beauforts and over. Due to the structure of the two bays you can choose to surf in the protected safe conditions or risk the adventure of sailing in the channel where the waves crest as tall as a rig.

Other Activities In And Around Porto Pollo

Sardinia is a stunning island and you must spare some time to see some of the amazing scenery, all within a few hours drive of Porto Pollo.

Boat trips to the Maddalena Islands are operated from the nearby town of Palau, and this is an experience not to be missed. This breathtaking archipelago has numerous hidden coves with aqua-blue waters and luscious mediterranean vegetation. La Maddalena is world-renowned for its natural beauty, history and culture.

Diving is very popular in Sardinia, due to the clear waters and rich marine life such as friendly dolphins and several kinds of fish. There are dive centres in Santa Teresa Gallura and Palau.

Sailing is also very popular, and the windsurf centre has several types of small catamarans for rent from Lasers to the Hobie Cat 15. They offer a 4 Hour beginner course and private lessons for all levels.

Local equestrian centres offer half day trail rides with a stop for swimming, or scenic evening rides to watch the sunset.

Nightlife

Evenings in Sardinia are laid back giving you time to enjoy the good food and relaxed Italian atmosphere. The towns of Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura are a short distance from all of our recommended properties if you wanted to get out, most of the hotels offer incredible half board inclusive options. The windsurf centre also organise weekly barbecues and other entertainment.
