Holbox Kitesurf Holidays

Holbox Island is a paradise kitesurfing holiday destination located north of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula and Cancun. As part of Mexico’s largest ecological reserve, Yum Balam, the island is mostly covered in wild mangroves and long stretches of white sandy beaches. At just 12km by 1.5km, Isla Holbox is a haven for birdlife with the locals making their living mainly from fishing. A beautiful lagoon separates the island of Holbox from Mexico and is easily accessed by a short ferry ride. This island offers a chance to get away from the bustling resorts and tourist-centric beaches of much of Mexico and connect with nature in a postcard Caribbean setting. Colourful murals, turquoise waters, bohemian cafes, unpaved streets and no cars to speak of, make this rural getaway in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The relaxed island vibe sets the perfect atmosphere for your next kitesurfing holiday in Holbox!

Kitesurfing In Holbox

Holbox offers consistent wind between the months of November and August and a wide expanse of flat water, making it one of Mexico's best kitesurfing spots. The wind hits the beach side-onshore and the daytime temperatures sit between 24 and 35 degrees Celcius. The Las Nubes sandbank provides a wide sandy beach that opens up into the flat water lagoon. Holbox is a fantastic spot for anyone wanting to learn to kitesurf due to its shallow flat waters and consistent steady winds. As the winds build, advanced kitesurfers can also enjoy the spot for long, uncrowded rides, perfect for practising new tricks.

Things To Do In Holbox

While Holbox is the perfect place just to kick back and relax on the beach or never-ending sandbars, there are also a myriad of things to do when you get bored of doing absolutely nothing! Explore the island by boat or bicycle, enjoy a walking tour to discover the vibrant murals, enjoy some snorkelling or swimming with whale sharks (season runs from May to September), kayak the mangroves with their pelicans and flamingoes, go fishing or paddlepoarding or reconnect with nature and yourself through yoga. There are also a number of fun beach bars dotted around the island where you can indulge in some authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. As the island isn't as developed as some of Mexico's more popular tourist spots, prices here are also generally more affordable.
