Dakhla Kitesurfing Holidays Overview

In the middle of the western Sahara, 1500 km away from Casablanca, is a town called Dakhla situated on a small peninsula of the Atlantic coast called Rio de Oro. At 30km from the city and 10km from the sea, you find a wonderful blue lagoon with an incredible wind statistic….a true Kitesurf paradise. The wind stats in this area are just astounding so you can sail the whole year in Dakhla (even in December & January, the lowest wind season, it is still 60% reliable)!! The water is perfectly flat with huge shallow areas; just perfect for beginners & improvers; simply the best spot on earth to learn to kitesurf.

Dakhla has recently also become a very ‘trendy’ location for the more affluent Moroccans to come for a few days to experience the wildness and beauty that this area has to offer. Mostly these visitors come for just a few days to take in the tranquillity of the area, go on boat excursions, surf at the wave spot and perhaps have a few kitesurf lessons.

Activities In Dakhla

One the rare occasions that there is no wind in Dakhla there is a brilliant surf place around 20 minute Journey away; a ideal place to try SUP or regular surfing.

However, this is a remote place so after a long time on the water the down time is mostly relaxing with a novel or your lap top (WiFi on site) or making new friends.

See What Our Clients Say

Planet Kitesurf understand the needs of a kitesurfer. I have been to Camp Dakhla before, so knew not to expect too much, but was pleased to note there have been a couple of improvements, namely, there were decent towels in room, fresh orange juice at breakfast and newer bed linen. Dakhla is warm, sunny, shallow at high tide, and there is excellent rescue cover. There is always a language issue when having tuition overseas, but this is countered by the great conditions. I would recommend being fluent in French. Also even though group lessons are booked, on arrival you are pushed into having semi-private as they say they don't have enough people for a group, but I think it is more that they don't want to pay surplus instructors. Ultimately, semi-private is better if you are at a certain level as you get your own kit and don't need to share.

Excellent!
