Why you'll love kitesurfing in Antigua!
Overview Of Antigua
Antigua is a beautiful Caribbean island that is an amazing kitesurfing destination! It is geographically small in size (11 by 14 miles), which makes it very accessible and with so many beautiful beaches, you are truly spoilt for choice. For this reasons it is advisable to hire a car, which Planet Kitesurf can organise, to make the most of the small distances between the different kitesurfing spots.
The Wind In Antigua
From November all the way through until July, Antigua is blessed with steady and reliable north-east trade winds. The wind blows side onshore, making Antigua a safe place for kiters and windsurfers of all levels and abilities.
From November until March the wind blows north-easterly from America, averaging approximately 12 - 18 knots everyday. The month of June offers the best wind conditions of the year as the warm easterly wind blows strongly.
Antiguas Kite Beach
Jabberwock Bay - This bay is the most well-known area in Antigua for kiters. It is situated within a beautiful National Park on the northern coast. of the island. The conditions are suitable for both beginners and advanced kitesurfers. The bay is beautifully sandy with shallow areas that drop off steeply into deeper waters, especially after storms, or with very strong winds. Bump 'n' jump conditions are also common with strong winds. Overall the wind generally blows between 12 to 20 knots in Jabberwock Bay, making it perfect conditions for all levels. Our partner kitesurf school who operate from this kitesurf beach will do pick ups from near by hotels for lessons (our top hotel is Bleu Waters Antigua)
Green Island and Nonsuch Bay - This kite spot is a beautiful area to kitesurf, but it only accessible by boat, making it very limited to access (and a bit expensive). The kitesurfing area of two square miles is on the windward side of Antigua, behind a barrier reef and with a launching point from a sandy beach at the mouth of the bay. We can provide lessons here with instructors providing constant support and guidance from inflatable boats.
Activities In Antigua
St John's is the capital city of Antigua which has many museums, a cathedral and duty-free shopping. Nelson's Dockyard will fascinate everyone, as will the natural landmark, Devils Bridge located on the east coast. Barbuda, Antiguas' small sister island, is home to Coco Bay, one of the finest beaches on the planet.
Other excellent activities, apart from windsurfing and kitesurfing, include helicopter tours, snorkelling cruises, 4x4 island tours, sightseeing and deep sea fishing.
With the island being so small, it is really easy to visit the different towns and cities, however, a temporary driving license for Antigua is required. These licenses are easily obtained from all police stations or from the airport.
The Nightlife In Antigua
There are plenty of diverse restaurants on the island, offering everything from fine French cuisine, Mexican, pizzerias to local cuisine. Eating out on the island can be very reasonably priced, especially when eating in a local restaurant.
There are a few nightclubs and lively bars on the island. 'Rabbit Night Club' is located on the southern coast, which is known for being a busy place in the evenings. 'Abracadabra' is a bar/nightclub that serves food during the day with live music, then transforms into a nightclub in the evenings. It is located in English Harbour, a 20 minute drive from the capital St John. 'Last Lemming' is just a few minutes walk from 'Abracadabra', and is situated at the Antigua Yacht Club, making it a favourite for sailors and travellers.

We lose sleep so you don’t.
We take every booking personally. Anything that doesn’t look right, anything that needs chasing — we’re the ones awake worrying about it, so you’re not.
Your money goes into trust
Not into our bank account. It sits with an independent trustee and is only released after you have travelled. If we stopped trading tomorrow it would still be there, and it would come back to you.
We book it all, and then check it
Flights, transfers, the room you actually chose, your lessons. Confirmed before you fly, not arranged when you land. We don’t book the cheapest transfer — drivers who turn up and speak English.
We call you before you go
Documents, visas, kit, anything you’re unsure about. A real conversation with the person who booked it, not an automated reminder.
We’re on WhatsApp the whole time you’re away
Any hour, any country. Flight moved, room not right, lessons cancelled for weather — one number, answered by someone who already knows your booking.
Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask us before booking their first — or fifteenth — kitesurf holiday.
Can i Just call for advice, I don't want to book. +
There is a huge amount of information on our website which is free to use. We really do try to do our best to help our clients, and put a huge amount of time and effort into every enquiry we get. If we are not able to find the correct holiday we are very happy to give you advice on where and how you may be able to find what you are looking for. However, we often spend a lot of time advising clients, following up with detailed holiday itineraries, with no feedback or response at all. For us, this is very demoralising and often frustrating. We simply ask that if you do use our service, we are kept informed about your holiday plans. As a small tour operator, most of our holidays are bespoke tailor-made, which involves a lot of time and effort for every enquiry.
Thank you!

Is my holiday protected with Planet Travel +
Holiday financial and ATOL protection
All our holidays with flights are covered by ATOL and TTA (Travel Trust Association) , and our holidays that do not include flights are still covered by our TTA protection, which means that you are 100% financially protected when you book your holiday with us. So what does that mean exactly for your holiday financial protection?
Planet Travel has ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s License) bonding, ATOL number T7314. By law, every UK travel company which sells flight-inclusive holidays and flights is required to hold an ATOL. If for any reason a travel company with an ATOL ceases trading, the ATOL scheme protects customers who had booked holidays with that firm. The scheme is designed to reassure consumers that their money is safe, and will provide assistance in the event of a travel company failure.
ATOL protection does not apply to holidays and travel services which exclude flights, for which protection is afforded by our membership of the Travel Trust Association. Planet has been a TTA member since 2001 ensuring that our customers get the best financial protection whatever holiday is booked with us.
When you pay any money to us your funds go directly to a special TTA Trust Account. This Trust Account is a bank account designated to hold customers’ money securely. These funds can only be used to pay for TTA-authorised suppliers, or under strictly insured and vetted third parties, appointed to provide your holiday services (such as hotels and flights). Any remaining funds may not be accessed until you have completed your holiday. Every holiday also comes with additional financial protection insurance, as well as being guaranteed by the Travel Trust Association.
Do I need Travel Insurance? +
It is not compulsory but STRONGLY recommended. It is essential that you have valid insurance to cover cancellation prior to departure (including a positive covid test) and good medical cover during your holiday. In addition, you will need to ensure it provides adequate cover for the sport you will be doing. Kitesurfing and scuba diving below 30m normally entail a policy uplift. Please check the 'small print' or ask your insurance company,
Planet Travel is not an authorised insurance broker so we do not provide our own insurance for you.
Why can't I search & book a holiday on-line? +
Planet Travel is a specialist niche tour operator. Our main objective is to be able to use our huge amount of expert knowledge and experience to provide you with the correct holiday. With this in mind, it is important that we speak our to clients directly, which is why we do not provide online booking.
On each of the hotel pages, we offer a price guide based on a one-week flight-inclusive holiday. Please note prices will vary a lot over peak holiday periods.
We are very good at giving fast quotes over the phone and can then follow up with detailed holiday itineraries on the trips that fit you best.
So please just call us in the first instance for an immediate best price availability check.
