Tarifa is a small very charming historical old town in Andulasia at the most southerly point of Spain, close to Gibraltar (or 2 hours drive from Malaga), with a stunning beach stretching out for around 10 km from the town. Tarifa Is one of the most famous spots for Kitesurfing (and now Wing Foiling) in Europe due to its year-round incredible wind reliability. One downside of its reputation during the peak summer is that during the months of July and August, the main kitesurf beaches are very busy. During this period the region is best avoided if you are not comfortable picking your way through 100's of kiters, or you can travel further along the coast to quieter locations. We recommend this location for May, June, September ad October.
One of the big attractions of Tarifa is the short distance from the UK, the amazing atmosphere (both on the beach and in the Old Town), and the chance to visit some of the amazing historical cities of Andulasia (such as Cadiz, Seville, Ronda, and Grenada). The Kitesurfing Conditions In Tarifa
The ideal wind is the 'Poniente', a very consistence side-onshore from the right which mainly blows from late spring to early autumn (in the warm summer months as a
thermal wind ), around 3-5 bft. The more aggressive 'Levante' wind, comes side-offshore from the left, with forces of 6-8 bft.
Kitesurf lessons are carried out either from the beach or if extra space is required, from a boat further out away from other kiters. Two-way radio helmets are used for the best instruction. We recommend a maximum of 2 students per instructor, or ideally, private kitesurf lessons. Our partner kitesurf school at Bibo Beach is the largest and best kitesurf school in the region. There is a superb high-quality restaurant right next to the kitesurf school, plus some 'put of the wind' seating areas. The kitesurf school has a massive stock of the newest kitesurf and wing foiling equipment from Duotone and Fanatic.
