This centre offers a perfect spot and lots of space for all kite surfers.
The centre is situated less than 50 meters from the turquoise coloured water. It is directly in front of the speed strip with lots of free upwind space. The Palm Royale Abu Soma is within walking distance but has a separate beach. There is no Marina quay or hotels blocking the wind.
On the left hand side of our station and about 20 meters from the beach there is a 2 kilometer long and 600 meters wide area where you can stand. Depending on the tide it is between 30 cm and 60 cm deep. The hip deep water is the perfect place to learn how to body drag, stand up on the board, ride upwind or how to do the first jumps.
By low tide a part of the sandbank is dry for about 2.5 hours. But even during this time you have an area to kite just behind that sand bank. We have a big storage space where you can leave all your material and to not waste any time pumping up there is a compressor.
There is enough space to set up and pack down or to just put your kite down while you are taking a break without interfering with other surfers.
Soma Bay is situated along the Red Sea and belongs to one of the best flat water spots know to surf riding. Gliding on turquoise super flat water – lots of space – wind waves which are not higher than the footpads on your board – long sandbanks from which you can jump are feet onto your board – relaxed surfing and learning all the tricks you always wanted.
We are offering a panorama terrace with it's own Bar, lots of shade, showers, toilets, changing rooms as well as umbrellas and sun beds. We also have our own workshop to repair boards, sails and kites.
Our VDWS-Centre has the newest equipment from Neilpryde, JP, Fanatic and Spleene. Kiting and windsurfing lessons are taught by qualified teachers.
Basically our centre lies in the same wind area as Hurghada and Safaga, but the up to 30 meter high sandbank in the North creates a plane wing effect which increases the wind between one and one and a half Beaufort.
Otherwise there is the morning wind which blows till 10/12 o'clock cross off shore. Later on it will change the direction slightly and blow cross shore and stronger from the perfect angle to the sandbank. Till 14/15. o'clock, we have a very stable wind which then decreases slowly depending on the season - sometimes it even blows till shortly before the sunset.
