Miavana Luxury Island Resort
Miavana Island in Madagascar is one of the most exclusive private island resorts in the world, located off the north-east coast on the remote Nosy Ankao archipelago. It offers an ultra-luxury escape where wild nature, adventure, and barefoot elegance combine. The island feels untouched, with white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and a backdrop of mangroves and coral reefs. It is best suited for high-end travellers, couples, families, and groups who want absolute privacy, world-class service, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences both on land and at sea. Highlights include vast villas with private pools, helicopter transfers from the mainland, access to exceptional diving and fishing, encounters with lemurs and other Madagascan wildlife, and the sense of having an entire private wilderness to explore.
Accommodation at Miavana is designed with extraordinary space and privacy in mind. There are only fourteen villas, each blending modern luxury with natural design using stone, glass, and wood. All villas come with private pools, direct beach access, and dedicated butler service.
The One-Bedroom Villas measure 450 square metres and are designed for couples or solo travellers. They include a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed, indoor and outdoor bathrooms, a large living and dining area, a private deck with loungers, and an infinity pool overlooking the beach. These villas are ideal for honeymooners or couples seeking privacy and romance.
The Two-Bedroom Villas measure 850 square metres and are set along the beach with expansive indoor and outdoor living areas. They include two master suites with en-suite bathrooms, a large pool, private gardens, and direct access to the sand. They are perfect for families or two couples travelling together.
The Three-Bedroom Villas are the largest, at over 1,000 square metres. They include three en-suite bedrooms, expansive living and dining pavilions, a large pool, private beach access, and panoramic ocean views. These villas are designed for larger families or groups who want space and exclusivity.
Facilities on the island are centred around the main “Village”, which houses a beachfront infinity pool, a bar, wine cellar, and a refined restaurant serving fresh seafood and farm-to-table produce. Private dining is often arranged in-villa, on the beach, or in remote island locations. The boutique and museum showcase Madagascan culture, artefacts, and natural history.
The Miavana Spa offers personalised treatments with views over the Indian Ocean. Fitness facilities are available, though most wellness here is tied to the island’s natural rhythms, with yoga and meditation on the beach or in-villa.
The island is surrounded by a protected marine reserve, making snorkelling and diving exceptional. Guests can expect pristine coral reefs, turtles, rays, and abundant fish life. Deep-sea fishing and catch-and-release sport fishing are also highlights. Kayaking, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, and sailing are all available, with jet skis and quad bikes for exploring further afield.
On land, guided wildlife excursions take guests to see Madagascar’s unique flora and fauna, including lemurs, chameleons, and rare bird species on nearby islands. Helicopter trips are a signature experience, offering access to mainland Madagascar for adventures such as rainforest treks, waterfall hikes, and cultural encounters.
Miavana is family-friendly despite its exclusivity. Villas can easily accommodate children, and tailored activities can be arranged, from treasure hunts on the beach to marine exploration with guides. Babysitting services are also available.
Evenings are magical and unhurried, with starlit dining on the sand, cocktails by the pool, or wine tastings in the cellar. The emphasis is on personal choice and privacy rather than scheduled entertainment.
Miavana Island Sanctuary is not simply a resort but an entire private world of adventure and luxury. It is ideal for those who want complete seclusion, exceptional wildlife experiences, and five-star service in one of the most untouched corners of the Indian Ocean. It is a rare blend of ultra-luxury and true wilderness, making it one of the most extraordinary destinations for travellers who seek something beyond the usual Maldivian or Caribbean island experience.
