With warm weather and consistent trade winds between November and April, it’s a prime winter escape for both beginners and advanced riders.
Accommodation on Boa Vista is low-key and charming, with most of the best places to stay being small, locally owned apartments spread out along a 10km stretch of beach west of Sal Rei. There are no large luxury hotels here, giving the island a relaxed, unspoilt feel, although a few bigger package holiday properties sit further along the main beach. At Planet Kitesurf, we only work with carefully selected accommodations in the best locations to ensure you’re close to the ideal kite spots for your level. Choosing the wrong base can lead to a poor experience, so our in-depth knowledge of the island ensures you’re perfectly matched to the right area and conditions.

Kitesurf Spot On Boa Vista
There are 3 main Kitesurf spots on Boa Vista depending on whether you are a beginner kitesurfer or more independent.
Close to the town of Sal Rei there is our new main Planet Kitesurf Centre, just a short walk from some of our hotels. Our new partner kitesurf centre in Boa Vista has a perfect set up based right o a stunning beach next to a really great beach bar / restaurant. There can sometimes be a shore break here but otherwise the water here is butter flat, perfect for learning or cruising. As the wind here is cross offshore kitesurfers using this spot without a pre booked service should be IKO level III and above ideally - confident up wind riding. Planet Kitesurf provide an exclusive special package for improvers that includes supervised rental and special safety cover. This is perfect for those that do not feel they need more lessons but want to practice with safety.
There are many wave spots around the island but the main area around 4 to 6km down the beach from the main kitesurf centre. If you want to stay at a hotel with waves directly from the beach then we recommend the Boa Vista Iberostar Hotel, we have excellent prices at this and all our hotels. There are other All Inclusive hotels in the area but not recommended.
There are at least 4 other amazing wave kitesurf locations around Boa Vista between 1 to 2 hours drive from the hotels. Planet can provide the use of a local expert spot guide with 4x4 pick-up to take you and your gear to the best location each day depending on your level (including a local knowledge secret spot!). Please ask for more details on this are the time of booking enquiry. This service is also great for groups.
The Nightlife In Boa Vista
The nightlife in Boa Vista revolves mainly around listening to live music, dining out, and relaxing in bars. The night scene is pretty relaxed as the island is not very developed. Dining out in the evening, you can expect to pay between 13 and 20 pounds for a three-course meal with wine. Many restaurants serve fantastic fresh seafood, along with other local specialities.
