This picture-perfect spot caters to every level of rider—from complete beginners to advanced freestylers and dedicated foilers. The upper section of the lagoon offers comfortable waist-deep water, making it an ideal environment for learning and progression. With the wind blowing cleanly over the beach, the lagoon transforms into a haven of butter-flat water, perfect for freestyle tricks and smooth, effortless cruising.
The deeper lower half of the lagoon is the go-to area for riders ready to fly across the water on a kite foil or wing foil, with plenty of space and consistent wind to perfect new skills.
Just 50 metres across the sand lies the turquoise Indian Ocean. In the summer months, a reef sitting roughly 200 metres offshore creates playful waves—ideal for surfboard riders and anyone looking for a change of scenery. Riders can bring their own board or rent from the center’s high-quality quiver. For those keen to learn, instructors offer wave-riding lessons with radio communication for real-time coaching. The same expert support is available for wing foiling and kite foiling, ensuring endless fun in the ocean swells.
For guests eager to explore even more, the center also offers a variety of downwinders and kite safaris to the region’s most exciting and remote spots—perfect for discovering Kalpitiya’s incredible diversity both on and off the water.

Our team of certified IKO instructors will guide you step by step through the entire learning process, following the official International Kiteboarding Organisation syllabus to ensure maximum safety and progression. Lessons are available in English, German, French, and Sinhala, making it easy for riders from around the world to learn in their preferred language.

Kitesurfing
During the main season from May to September, the team at Duotone Pro Center Kalpitiya offers two hours of instruction in the morning and another two hours in the afternoon, making the most of the region’s steady, reliable winds. For complete beginners, a 3-day (12-hour) beginner course is recommended to build strong foundations and progress with confidence. Riders with previous experience or fast learners are welcome to opt for a shorter, customised course to suit their level.
There’s no fixed rule for how quickly each student will move through the beginner syllabus. The focus is always on providing a safe, supportive learning environment where every rider can develop the skills needed to head out on the water independently and with full confidence after completing their course.
Duotone Pro Center Kalpitiya provides both wing surf and wing foil lessons, offering a smooth and structured pathway into one of the fastest-growing water sports. Training begins with mastering wing control on a SUP—an essential first step before progressing to a foil board. With the lagoon’s waist-deep water and steady winds, students enjoy the perfect environment for learning safely and confidently before taking their first flights.
Each programme is designed for riders of all levels who want to become truly independent wing foilers, supported every step of the way by experienced instructors.
