The Old Foundry Hotel

Old Foundry Hotel is situated in the Old Foundry, an historic building comprised of office spaces, restaurants and a few shops. It’s on the cusp of Cape Town’s inner city and Green Point district, a very central location for those wanting an urban getaway with convenient access to all that Cape Town has to offer – from beaches to mountain to malls.

For many years Cape Town’s inner city has been evolving into a vibrant district where the gritty city character has been reinvented as chic, modern hangouts, office spaces and homes. The Old Foundry, which dates back to 1876, is one of the oldest buildings in the area and the hotel’s interior designer has carefully emphasised the historical legacy of the building. Its industrial skeleton – including old winches and aged bare brick – is echoed in the pieces of vintage furniture, and complimented with sophisticated modern touches like lavish glass chandeliers, plush furnishings and slick copper accents. It’s the sort of space you could spend hours in, and still come across interesting vignettes in undiscovered corners.

The Old Foundry is the flagship of Ideas Cartel, an innovative company that calls itself “an intersection for innovation” and “an ecosystem that facilitates meaningful connections.” In other words, they make interesting spaces that serve a variety of purposes for a variety of people – and this means that guests of the hotel have access to all the building has to offer: an outstanding co-working space, members’ club, a rooftop pool, slick gym facilities, a restaurant and bar.

Because the building is used as an office space for businesses and individuals, there is a buzz to the atmosphere and the hotel feels like a place alive with purpose, not simply a sophisticated place to stay. All Ideas Cartel hotels make use of a digital concierge, which allows guests to order food or drinks, or book facilities at the hotels.
