Overview Baglio Oneto

Nestled in the Marsala countryside, the Baglio Oneto Resort and Wines Hotel, an ex-wine and oil production factory, dating from the eighteenth century, has recently been restored into a fantastic 5-star hotel.

Baglio Oneto is surrounded by the fertile countryside of Marsala, only a few minutes from Trapani, the medieval village of Erice and the Stagnone natural reserve including Mozia and Saline. The kitesurf centre at Lo Stagnone is located within a 5-10 minute drive.
The noun “Baglio” comes from Balarm (fortress house), indicating those houses built in defence from pirate attacks, but the name also comes from the Latin word Ballium, meaning courtyard surrounded by tall buildings or walls. Oneto is a name which comes from the family of the owners - wine and oil producers, descendants from the Consul of Genoa Odonetto of which historical records date back to 1300.
Baglio Oneto was built in the late eighteenth century when, following the trade embargo against Spain by Napoleon, valued vineyards in the Marsala countryside were on the same sun band as the great Spanish vineyards.
The resort has been designed and built keeping intact the architectural identity of the ancient Baglio, building new buildings at a respectful distance, because they did not want to alter the architectural integrity. The rooms are connected to the main building via a tunnel in iron and glass and arranged around a new outdoor courtyard with a barrel-shaped pool that allows you to enjoy the beautiful sea landscape with Saline, Mozia and the Egadi Islands.
In the cellar of Baglio Oneto, which houses the barrels of wine, and the old tools used for working the land and its products, you can taste the production of wine, liquors and olive oil of the property.

Dining At Baglio Oneto

At “La Calandra” restaurant you can enjoy Italian, Sicilian and typical Mediterranean dishes that show you the concept of “gourmet philosophy cooking”: a genuine and fulfilling culinary experience, perfect for any taste. The aromatic herbs that grow on the surrounding land of Baglio Oneto give the dishes an ancient and traditional Sicilian taste and smell. The wine list offers you a wide and carefully selected list of the best Italian and locally produced wines, among which you can also find the Baglio Oneto personal production. The restaurant’s interior features a hut roof and entrances made of local stones that remind us of the past, in a place where bread and pasta were once made. During spring and summertime, it is possible to enjoy lunch on the “Terrazza di Venere” that overlooks the sea, islands and famous Mount Erice. Dinner is served in the Giardino della Corte Storica, where a particular feature of the original water well is present, a very unique piece, known as the heart of the ancient Baglio you will be enchanted by a very romantic and intimate atmosphere.

We also absolutely recommend a visit to Baglio Oneto Wine Cellar which includes 4 wine tasting combined with typical products and the tasting of the farm's own extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy the fascinating history of Baglio Oneto and of the Marsala wine.
