Sri Lanka is an incredible country, filling with fascinating culture and endless excursion opportunities. Planet is really excited to now be offering a truly amazing kitesurfing location, in a country we are so passionate about. Our kitesurfing spot in Sri Lanka has amazing wind stats throughout the wind seasons. Combine that with a huge butter flat shallow kitesurfing area, fun waves, and beautiful accommodation. We give you Kalpitiya!
The wind in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka blows constantly day and night between May and September from 20 knots, peaking at 30.
The North-West monsoon season from December to March also brings wind for kiting, though not as consistently as the period between May and September. This is thanks to the thermal winds which build throughout the day and last until sunset.
October, November, April are often the calmest months of the year, with less wind and little rain. Though this is not the best time for kiting in Kalpitiya, it is a great time for exploring this amazing country!
It is not just the perfect kiting set up in Kalpitiya that makes this such a great place, it is the sheer amount of ways to spend your time. At Planet we have a wealth of knowledge about tours and excursions around Sri Lanka. We can arrange for you to tour around the country to view the amazing sites such as the Temple Of The Tooth, visits to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, and so much more.
In the peak season, no wind days are very rare, if any at all, so you may wish to spend all your time on the water. Though for any non-kiting friends and family members, or days you are just too tired to kite any more, there are lots of other ways to enjoy your holiday in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka. These include dolphin and whale watching, various other watersports, catamaran sailing, fishing, visits to the Wilpattu National Park, or just lazing on the beautiful white sandy beaches.
