Lonno Lodge Watamu, in detail

Lonno Lodge

This is a family-owned property by the Watamu Marine National Park in Kenya. It's like a fort by the beach, blending Italian and Swahili styles. The owners are friendly and love sharing their home. The gardens are big, giving you privacy.

Lonno Lodge was built by an Italian architect for himself and his wife. It feels more like a home than a hotel. The building is well-designed with many rooftop terraces to see the beautiful coastline. There's a pool nearby, next to the restaurant, bar, and reception under a big thatched roof. Everything blends nicely with the rocky grounds and trees. It's not a place for wild parties; it's more about slowing down and relaxing.

You can enjoy the spa and the pool, which is less salty than you might expect and has seats. The owners encourage guests to explore the area and support local businesses. The staff are discreet, and guests can relax without interruptions. There's no room service, but you'll feel like you can unwind in peace.

The lodge has eight suites with cream walls and brick. They have Swahili-style beds and dark wooden furniture with carved designs. Kenyan art decorates the walls. The top tower room has excellent views from its rooftop, but you must climb a steep ladder. Bathrooms are simple with showers but no tubs.

Italian food is a big part of the menu, with olive oils and breads. Breakfast has fruit, cereal, and hot options. Lunch is two or three courses, and dinner is four. The pasta dishes are tasty, and the tuna steak is tender. They also have wine from their vineyard in Italy. Meals are fixed, but you can choose how many you want the night before.
