Mannar Island is Planet's newest find in Sri Lanka.
The island is linked to the mainland of Sri Lanka via a causeway. On the northwestern coast of the island, in a small village called Talaimannar, sandbanks and limestone shoals form what is known as Adam's Bridge - a spit of land stretches out from Sri Lanka to India. It is here where you will also find a large space of protected flatwater. The protected sandbanks of Mannar are well-known for strong winds and as a sanctuary for numerous migratory birds - you can spot countless species from your verandah! Whether you are a dedicated ornithologist or new to bird spotting, Sri Lanka’s wildlife will have you amazed.
Mannar Island in Sri Lanka is a dream kitesurfing location with pristine conditions, few other kitesurfers on the water, 16 kilometres of flatwater conditions and the most stable, consistent winds Sri Lanka has to offer. The wind stability and strength is fantastic in Mannar, due to the venturi effect, that pushes air between the landmass of Sri Lanka and India creating a pressure difference and dream kitesurfing conditions. You can experience miles of flatwater conditions as well as a mix of wave action on the windward side of the Adam's Bridge.
The wind conditions here are heavenly during the summer season from May to October and the winter season from January to March. The kitesurfing spot is situated right outside your cabana. Set out, pump and off you go Kitesurfing! Adam’s Bridge offers protective sand banks that not only ensure flat water conditions for freestyle but great places for those who want to learn the sport!
