Learn & progress in El Gouna

Why we rate this centre

Whether beginner, intermediate or advanced rider, The Mangroovy Kite Centre El Gouna offers ideal conditions for an unforgettable kitesurfing holiday and rapid progression on the water. With year-round sunshine, warm crystal-clear waters and reliable wind, the spot is perfectly suited to riders of all levels.

One of the centre’s standout features is its enormous shallow-water lagoon, covering more than two square kilometres and recognised as one of the largest shallow lagoons in the Red Sea. The safe, spacious setup creates exceptional learning and riding conditions, while professional VDWS-certified instructors provide expert guidance both on and off the water. Throughout the day, dedicated beach staff are also on hand to assist with launching, landing and general support, ensuring a smooth and relaxed experience.

After a session, guests can unwind at the beachfront restaurant or beach bar, relax beside the swimming pool — included for centre guests — and soak up the laid-back atmosphere that makes El Gouna such a popular destination for both kitesurfing and wingfoiling holidays.

Station & Spot Facilities

Located directly on the beachfront close to the northern hotels of El Gouna, Mangroovy Kite Centre El Gouna provides everything needed for a smooth, comfortable and enjoyable kite holiday. The centre combines excellent riding conditions with a full range of practical facilities and relaxed social spaces, creating the ideal environment both on and off the water.

Guests benefit from secure storage boxes for personal kite equipment, alongside a dedicated night guard service for added peace of mind. Compressors are available for quick and easy kite inflation, while the experienced beach team assists throughout the day with launching and landing.

For safety on the water, a rescue boat is ready within minutes whenever assistance is needed in deeper areas. At the end of each session, riders can rinse their gear using the freshwater wash station and leave equipment to dry comfortably before storage.

The centre also offers a wide range of amenities designed for comfort and convenience, including:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Secure lockers for valuables
  • Spacious changing rooms
  • Heated swimming pool during winter months
  • Home-office workstations with power outlets
  • Solar-heated hot water showers and toilets

Away from the water, guests can relax across three spacious sun decks, unwind in the shaded chill-out area or enjoy the large games room equipped with table tennis, billiards, table football and a variety of board games — creating a welcoming atmosphere for both riders and non-riders alike.

Spot Map

Spot 1 – Main Lagoon Spot
Located directly in front of the centre, Spot 1 features a long private sandy beach offering more than 800 metres of space for launching, landing and storing kites comfortably. Just beyond the beach lies the expansive shallow-water lagoon, stretching across several square kilometres and providing exceptionally safe and user-friendly conditions. The easy water access and flat, shallow setup make this spot ideal for beginners, progression sessions and relaxed freeriding alike.

Spot 2 – Training & Event Area

Situated approximately 800 metres north of the centre, Spot 2 serves as the dedicated event and advanced training area. Experienced kitesurfers can enjoy uncrowded conditions with plenty of open space on the water. The standing area extends roughly 800 metres offshore, with water depth ranging from knee- to hip-deep and only minimal reef remnants or rocks present. Access is possible via a short upwind ride of around 10 minutes for riders comfortable going upwind.

At KBC El Gouna, you can rent first-class F-ONE wingfoil equipment from the centre directly at the kite beach. Book in advance and you will always have the right equipment, even if you have to change several times a day.

To rent, you need a licence that corresponds to the VDWS level 5.

For rental of equipment you may be required to produce a VDWS/IKO/RYA or equivalent licence to prove ability to rent (For Egypt this is mandatory and if unable to provide you will need to do a skills test and pay for a licence locally)

Kindly note the below regarding the Egypt amusement tax to be paid on site:

The Egyptian parliament has passed a so-called amusement tax. From 16 July 2023, this tax must be paid to the Egyptian tax office. Unfortunately, this amusement tax also applies to all Sport/Dive centres on the Red Sea. Centres are now obliged to report the income daily to the tax office and to pay this tax to the state.

Kitesurf Lessons
Kitesurf Private Learn To Kitesurf Course (incl. equipment)
hour(s)
From £480

Kitesurfing Lessons with a personal instructor gives you the opportunity to have a 1-on-1 interaction with your instructor to help you learn at a pace that is driven by you. The Learn To Kitesurf course aims to get you riding, while also teaching you how to read the conditions and utilise your equipment safely and correctly.

You will start with the basics; this includes setup of your equipment, safety features that you will utilise and how to fly a small 2metre trainer kite. When your instructor feels you are ready you can then head to the water. On day one you will only be using the kite and not go on the board just yet. Entering the water is when the fun starts! Here you will be taught how to properly fly an inflatable kitesurfing kite, how to control your kite and what to do if you crash it in the water. On day one you will be comfortable flying the kite and know what to do in any situation.

You will then move on to the board lessons. What does that mean? Well it is time to get up on the board now. You will practice using the kite to generate pull and you will learn how to get the kite to pull you without the board first. The idea is to get used to how the kite behaves when asked to pull you. Once confident doing this you will learn how to put the board on your feet and after that, how to get up on the board. Most people will manage to do a few metres on the board by the end of the course.

Note:

You don’t need to be super-fit to kitesurf and the kit is lightweight, so you don’t need lots of muscle strength either. But of course, a decent level of fitness will help you to progress faster. Your instructor will be there to support you, coach you, and more importantly, keep you safe through the learning process.
