Resort Hotels Centres Map Wind

The Kitesurf School in Bel Ombre Mauritius is perfectly situated right on the beach of Bel Ombre within a short walk of a variety of very good quality hotels, see our Bel Ombre hotel page. This makes Bel Ombre a perfect location for those travelling with non-kitesurfing partner or families as well for a pure kitesurfer. The centre is also located within a trendy Beach Club, an ideal hang out in between sessions or for family/partners to spectate. The Beach Club has a pool, hot showers, toilets and serves a variety of food from snacks to full lunch.

For the kids there is a play area next to the kitesurf centre with swings and slides. Although this is not supervised we can arrange for this service on request. However, we have excellent child care arrangements in our chosen hotel in Bel Ombre, please call and speak to a Mauritius travel expert for details on this.

Directly off the beach, you are straight into a flat water lagoon, protected from any waves by an outer reef, making for ideal condition to beginners and improvers. This kitesurf school offers all levels of kitesurf lessons, on a private or semi-private basis, from 3 day beginner kitesurf courses through to improver and expert instruction.

The centre offers a lot of facility for kitesurfers including kite lessons for kids as from 11 yrs, kite equipment storage and complimentary boat transfers from your hotel's jetty to the kite spot (just 5 min).

Windsurf rentals and lessons are available at high tide only

Our partner centre at Bel Ombre has a variety of different lesson packages available. They offer private, semi-private and family lessons. Lessons are available for children, teens and adults, no matter if you are a beginner or an intermediate windsurfer. Learning windsurfing in small groups guarantees the greatest success in learning. The experienced instructors are all certified. The teaching equipment is from the brand Goya. This company is one of the leading windsurf brands on the market. The centre stocks beginner boards and sails as well as advanced equipment.

This service will allow you to store your kitesurf equipment at the centre, and often also includes free rescue service assuming you are riding upwind level or above.

Note:

Rescue service is normally limited to 1 rescue per day assuming you are an independent kiter, able to ride up wind. Local charges may apply for extra rescues.

For Storage and rescue services, you may be required to produce a VDWS/IKO/RYA or equivalent licence to prove your ability (For Egypt this is mandatory, and if unable to provide you will need to do a skills test and pay for a licence locally)

Semi-Private lessons are a maximum of 2 students per instructor, meaning fast progression. The lessons include all equipment and are designed to take you from total beginner to up and riding. We normally suggest at least 10 hours to get the up on the board doing short runs. Lessons are normally in 2 - 3-hour sessions, but dependent on local conditions.

We will schedule your course to start on your first full day, but you must remain available to the school to work around local wind and sea conditions, as well as instructor availability.

Kitesurfing Lessons with a personal instructor gives you the opportunity to have a 1-on-1 interaction with your instructor to help you learn at a pace that is driven by you. The Learn To Kitesurf course aims to get you riding, while also teaching you how to read the conditions and utilise your equipment safely and correctly. 

You will start with the basics; this includes setup of your equipment, safety features that you will utilise and how to fly a small 2metre trainer kite. When your instructor feels you are ready you can then head to the water. On day one you will only be using the kite and not go on the board just yet. Entering the water is when the fun starts! Here you will be taught how to properly fly an inflatable kitesurfing kite, how to control your kite and what to do if you crash it in the water. On day one you will be comfortable flying the kite and know what to do in any situation.

You will then move on to the board lessons. What does that mean? Well it is time to get up on the board now. You will practice using the kite to generate pull and you will learn how to get the kite to pull you without the board first. The idea is to get used to how the kite behaves when asked to pull you. Once confident doing this you will learn how to put the board on your feet and after that, how to get up on the board. Most people will manage to do a few metres on the board by the end of the course.

Note:

You don’t need to be super-fit to kitesurf and the kit is lightweight, so you don’t need lots of muscle strength either. But of course, a decent level of fitness will help you to progress faster. Your instructor will be there to support you, coach you, and more importantly, keep you safe through the learning process.

Daily kitesurf unlimited rental, with choice of boards and kites, bar included. The range of equipment will vary from each different kitesurf school, so sometimes the exact kite size may not be available. Kitesurf rental packages are great if you want to experiment with different types of equipment before you decide to invest in your own, or if you just don't want toe hassle of taking your own equipment. 

The quality of kitesurf rental equipment will vary from each different sport centre. Take a look at the sport centre details for more information on this. if you are not sure then you can always call us. We only work with the best kitesurf centres in each resort and do our best to visit every centre we offer.

You must be able to demonstrate safe setup and use of the equipment, and be able to ride upwind (most of the time). If the centre feels that you are not yet ready to kite independently they may swap out some of the rental value for instruction.

Damage Insurance is not included and should be paid locally

Daily rental of boards, rig and sails. Most centres will 'fix' your ideal board size to ensure availability, but you have access to all available equipment. It is important to pre-book your windsurf rental as part of your holiday to be sure of availability, especially over the high season periods. Rental can only be used on consecutive days. Please note that local prices can be significantly more expensive than pre-booked prices.
