Why we rate this centre

Mannar is one of the best spots in the world to learn kitesurfing with its waist-deep water. Usually, lessons are run in two sessions - 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. The centre provides kitesurfing courses in many languages and can provide coaching for a range of abilities, from going upwind to learning the latest tricks. Kiteboarding equipment rental is also available. If you need a kite repair kit, lycra, suncream, or sunglasses, the kite shop is well equipped and also has a repair section where you can get your kite fixed!

The centre here partners with Zian Kiteboarding. Zian is the collaboration of an eclectic group of kiters and manufacturing professionals with a common vision: Making high-performance kites without compromising on design, build quality or materials. Test runs are also possible if you want to buy.

Prices for the week from
Kitesurf Lessons
Kitesurf Group instruction (incl. equipment)
hour(s)
From £173

Group lessons are great value for money and lots of fun, but if you are looking for rapid progression, we recommend upgrading to private or semi-private lessons (see other courses, or please call us for advice).

Group kitesurf lessons are normally upto a maximum of 4 students per instructor.  The two students normally share a kite. Lessons are normally taken in 2 to 3 hour sessions, but depend on the local wind and sea conditions. Some centres will shorten the hours if they have less students as they will be able to cover the same course structure in a shorter time. Lessons are dependent on local conditions.

Note:

It is generally known that in group lessons clients will share equipment and that hours may be reduced if less than 4 people on the course. If the school is not able to provide you with all, or part of the course, due to low wind (or adverse weather), please ensure you get written confirmation from them so we may credit you according to the terms & conditions of the kitesurf school. The general rule is that if the school is unable to provide you with the lessons, they will offer you an alternative service or a credit, or a refund.

Kitesurf Lessons
Kitesurf Private Learn To Kitesurf Course (incl. equipment)
hour(s)
From £264

Kitesurfing Lessons with a personal instructor gives you the opportunity to have a 1-on-1 interaction with your instructor to help you learn at a pace that is driven by you. The Learn To Kitesurf course aims to get you riding, while also teaching you how to read the conditions and utilise your equipment safely and correctly.

You will start with the basics; this includes setup of your equipment, safety features that you will utilise and how to fly a small 2metre trainer kite. When your instructor feels you are ready you can then head to the water. On day one you will only be using the kite and not go on the board just yet. Entering the water is when the fun starts! Here you will be taught how to properly fly an inflatable kitesurfing kite, how to control your kite and what to do if you crash it in the water. On day one you will be comfortable flying the kite and know what to do in any situation.

You will then move on to the board lessons. What does that mean? Well it is time to get up on the board now. You will practice using the kite to generate pull and you will learn how to get the kite to pull you without the board first. The idea is to get used to how the kite behaves when asked to pull you. Once confident doing this you will learn how to put the board on your feet and after that, how to get up on the board. Most people will manage to do a few metres on the board by the end of the course.

Note:

You don’t need to be super-fit to kitesurf and the kit is lightweight, so you don’t need lots of muscle strength either. But of course, a decent level of fitness will help you to progress faster. Your instructor will be there to support you, coach you, and more importantly, keep you safe through the learning process.
