Days 1 - 2
3* The Researchers Rest
Breakfast
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly met and assisted before enjoying a private transfer to Arusha. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax after your international journey. Overnight is at The Researchers Rest, a peaceful lodge set in leafy gardens on the outskirts of Arusha.
Arusha
Arusha is a vibrant city in northern Tanzania, often referred to as the gateway to some of Africa's most renowned natural wonders. Nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, it offers a stunning backdrop of lush greenery and distant mountain peaks.
The city is a starting point for safaris to world-famous destinations like Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. Arusha itself is rich in culture, with bustling markets, craft shops, and local eateries where you can experience Tanzanian cuisine and hospitality. Visitors often explore nearby attractions, including coffee plantations and the Maasai cultural villages, for an authentic glimpse into the region's traditions. With its blend of urban energy and natural beauty, Arusha provides tourists an ideal mix of adventure and cultural immersion.
Days 2 - 4
4* Angata Tarangire Camp | Tarangire National Park
Full Board and all game drives
After breakfast, you depart Arusha in a private 4x4 Land Cruiser with your dedicated driver-guide and travel to Tarangire National Park, renowned for its iconic baobab trees and impressive elephant herds. Game viewing begins upon entering the park, with time to explore the Tarangire River ecosystem where wildlife congregates year-round. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed inside the park. In the late afternoon, you arrive at Ang’ata Tarangire Camp, perfectly positioned within the wilderness.
Another day here with no travel scheduled, you enjoy a full day of game drives from dawn to dusk in Tarangire National Park. Early morning and late afternoon safaris offer excellent opportunities to spot predators, giraffe, buffalo, and a variety of birdlife. Midday can be spent relaxing at camp before heading out again for further exploration. Overnight remains at Ang’ata Tarangire Camp.
Tarangire
Tarangire National Park is one of northern Tanzania’s most beautiful and underrated wildlife parks. It is known for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and wide open landscapes. The park feels quieter and less crowded than some of the more famous reserves, which gives it a peaceful and authentic safari atmosphere. It is especially popular with travellers who want excellent wildlife viewing without the busier feel of the Serengeti.
The main sights to visit include the Tarangire River, which is the lifeline of the park and attracts huge numbers of animals during the dry season. Large herds of elephants are the biggest highlight and are often seen close to the river. The giant baobab trees are another special feature and make the landscape very distinctive. Visitors can see lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and many types of antelope. The park is also one of the best places in Tanzania for birdwatching, with hundreds of different bird species. Game drives are the main activity, and some camps also offer guided walking safaris.
The best time to visit Tarangire is during the dry season from June to October. At this time, animals gather around the river, making wildlife easy to spot. The weather is warm and mostly dry, which makes travel comfortable. The not-so-good time to visit is during the rainy seasons, especially from March to May, when heavy rain can make roads muddy, and wildlife more spread out. However, the park is very green and beautiful at this time, and there are fewer visitors.
Days 4 - 5
4* Angata Ngorongoro Camp, Karatu

After breakfast, you depart Tarangire and journey to Lake Manyara National Park, a lush and diverse ecosystem known for its forested groundwater springs, large baboon troops, and flamingo-filled lake shores. After game viewing in the park, you continue into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending into cooler highlands. Upon arrival at the crater rim in the afternoon, you enjoy a guided crater rim walk, offering breathtaking views into the caldera and insight into the area’s unique ecology. Overnight is at Ang’ata Ngorongoro Camp, set near the crater rim.
Ngorongoro
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most famous safari destinations in Africa. It is a huge volcanic crater filled with grasslands, lakes and forests, all surrounded by high crater walls. Because the animals live inside this natural bowl, wildlife viewing is often excellent and easy. It feels dramatic and unique, with wide open views and a real sense of wonder when you first look down into the crater.
The main sights to visit include the crater floor itself, where visitors can see lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras and wildebeest in a relatively small area. It is also one of the best places in Tanzania to spot black rhino. Lake Magadi, in the centre of the crater, often has flamingos and other water birds. The Lerai Forest is home to large bull elephants and monkeys. Many travellers also visit nearby Maasai villages to learn about local culture and traditions. Game drives down into the crater are the main activity and usually last half a day.
The best time to visit Ngorongoro is during the dry season from June to October, when wildlife is easy to see and the weather is clear and cool. January and February are also good months, with warm weather and good visibility. The not so good time to visit is during the long rains from March to May, when heavy rain can make roads muddy and cloudy weather can reduce views from the crater rim. However, the landscape is very green and beautiful at this time, and there are fewer vehicles.
Ngorongoro can feel busier than some other parks because it is so well known, especially in peak season. Early morning visits are often quieter and give the best light for photography. Despite this, it remains one of the most reliable places in Africa to see a wide range of wildlife in a short time, making it a highlight of many Tanzanian safari trips.
Days 5 - 7
3* Kisura Serengeti Camp | Seronera

An early start sees you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular game drive on the crater floor, home to one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, including lion, elephant, hippo, and the rare black rhino. After ascending the crater, you continue onward to the Serengeti National Park, where game viewing unfolds across vast open plains. You arrive at Kisura Serengeti Camp in time to unwind before dinner.
Day 2 here is dedicated to unrestricted game drives from early morning through sunset in the Serengeti. Explore different regions of the park in search of big cats, large herbivore herds, and the ever-changing drama of the savannah. You may return to camp during the heat of the day or remain out in the field depending on wildlife activity. Overnight remains at Kisura Serengeti Camp.
The Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti, located in northern Tanzania, is a world-renowned wilderness and a crown jewel of Africa’s safari destinations. Its name, derived from the Maasai word "Siringet," meaning "endless plains," perfectly describes the expansive grasslands that stretch as far as the eye can see. This vast ecosystem, covering approximately 30,000 square kilometres, is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife, including the famous Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinoceroses—as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and countless other species.
One of the Serengeti’s most extraordinary features is the Great Migration, a natural phenomenon where over two million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles traverse its plains in a continuous cycle of movement, driven by the search for fresh grazing and water. This epic journey includes dramatic river crossings, particularly along the Grumeti and Mara rivers, where predators like crocodiles lie in wait, and it is a highlight for many visitors.
The best time to visit the Serengeti depends on what you wish to experience. From December to March, the southern plains come alive during the calving season, when thousands of baby wildebeests and zebras are born. This attracts predators like lions and cheetahs, making it an excellent time for wildlife viewing and witnessing the circle of life. From June to October, the dry season offers prime conditions for game viewing as animals gather around water sources, and it’s also when the Great Migration reaches the northern Serengeti. This period is famous for the dramatic river crossings, particularly from July to September, which are among the most thrilling wildlife spectacles in the world. November and early December mark the short rainy season, when the migration begins its journey back south, and the landscape transforms into a lush, green haven.
Days 7 - 9
4* Moyo Maya Tented Camp, Serengeti

After breakfast, you continue your Serengeti safari, moving toward the seasonal migration areas. Game drives throughout the day provide opportunities to follow predator action and vast plains game movements. You arrive at Moyo Migration Camp, strategically located to maximise wildlife encounters during this time of year.
Enjoy another full day of dawn-to-dusk game drives in the Serengeti. Spend time tracking wildlife hotspots and soaking in the remoteness of the ecosystem, with flexibility to adapt the day to animal movements and photographic opportunities. Overnight remains at Moyo Migration Camp.
Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti is a remote and beautiful part of the Serengeti ecosystem. It feels wild, open and far away from busy tourist areas. This region is best known for dramatic river crossings during the Great Migration, when thousands of wildebeest and zebra move across the plains and cross the Mara River. The scenery is a mix of rolling grasslands, rocky hills and river valleys, giving it a very natural and untouched feel.
The main sights to visit include the Mara River, where the famous migration crossings take place between roughly July and October, depending on rainfall. Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra gather at the riverbanks before making the dangerous crossing, often with crocodiles waiting in the water. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are also common in this area, following the herds. Even outside migration season, the Northern Serengeti offers excellent game viewing, with resident wildlife throughout the year. Game drives are the main activity, and some camps offer guided walks in certain areas.
The best time to visit the Northern Serengeti is from July to October, when the migration is usually in the area and river crossings are most likely. The weather is generally dry and wildlife viewing is very good. The not so good time to visit is during the long rains from March to May, when heavy rain can make travel more difficult and the migration will usually be in other parts of the Serengeti. However, this time of year is quieter, with fewer vehicles and very green landscapes.
The Northern Serengeti feels more exclusive than the central part of the park. Camps are more spread out, and visitor numbers are lower. It is ideal for travellers who want a classic safari experience in a wilder setting, especially those hoping to witness one of Africa’s most dramatic natural events.
Days 9 - 16

After breakfast, you transfer to the airstrip. You are then assisted with your scheduled flight from Kogatende Airstrip to Zanzibar, marking the end of your safari adventure and the beginning of your island escape.

Having spent a few days in Paje, a few in Dongwe and the last days in Jambiani on a recent trip, I have found a really exciting destination for some great kiting. Suitable for beginners and intermediates (at high tide in particular) - the east coast is the best area to kitesurf in Zanzibar. Multiple high quality, great value accommodations combined with access to the best kitesurf schools in Zanzibar - perfect!!!
