Breezes Beach Club & Spa in Dongwe is a peaceful and beautifully maintained beachfront resort on Zanzibar’s quiet southeast coast. It’s perfect for couples, families and anyone looking for a laid-back holiday with excellent service and access to both relaxation and adventure. The resort has a classic tropical style, with thatched roofs, carved wood furniture, lush gardens and soft white sand just steps from your room. The atmosphere is calm and refined, ideal for unwinding but with plenty to do if you’re feeling active.
Rooms are divided into three main types: Garden Rooms, Deluxe Rooms and Suites. All rooms are similar in interior layout and décor, with polished wood floors, traditional fabrics and a Swahili-inspired design. Garden Rooms are located on the ground floor furthest from the beach and are surrounded by greenery. Deluxe Rooms are identical in size and features but are closer to the ocean. Each measures around 48 square metres and sleeps up to three people, with either a queen-size or twin beds and an extra sofa bed. They include air conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar, tea and coffee station, hairdryer, safe and an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower.
Suites are larger, approximately 84 square metres, and located on the upper floor with a large private balcony and sunbeds. They have a separate lounge area and offer extra space and privacy, making them ideal for honeymooners or couples wanting something a little more exclusive. Suites include the same amenities as the rooms, with extra space and comfort.
The resort has a large lagoon-style swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers and shaded areas, with a separate shallow pool for children. Just beyond is a wide stretch of white sand beach with thatched umbrellas, cushioned loungers and easy access to the warm Indian Ocean. The beach here is tidal, which creates peaceful sandbars and shallow pools that shift with the day.
Dining is a highlight at Breezes. The main restaurant offers a generous breakfast and themed buffet dinners with local and international dishes. There’s a beachfront grill for light lunches and seafood, a poolside café for snacks and fresh juices, and an elegant bar and tea lounge for pre-dinner drinks and desserts. The resort also offers private beach dinners and a special Sultan’s Table experience, featuring a five-course menu with Zanzibari influences in an intimate setting.
The Frangipani Spa is a peaceful retreat within the resort, offering a wide range of treatments including Balinese massage, aromatherapy, body scrubs, facials and beauty services. There are single and couple treatment rooms, some with candlelit interiors and calming garden views. The resort also includes a small air-conditioned gym with cardio equipment and weights.
Breezes has a water sports centre offering kite surfing, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding. Diving trips and courses are available through a certified PADI dive centre located on the property. Reef walks at low tide and guided snorkelling excursions can also be arranged. On land, guests can enjoy beach volleyball, tennis, billiards, and bike hire.
Families are welcome at the resort, and there are child-friendly amenities including the shallow pool, high chairs, baby cots and occasional evening entertainment suitable for younger guests. While there is no formal kids' club, the quiet and safe grounds make it easy for children to enjoy themselves.
Services include 24-hour reception, daily housekeeping with evening turndown, laundry and dry-cleaning, luggage storage, concierge assistance, and Wi-Fi access throughout the property. Airport transfers can be arranged, and parking is available on site.
