Why you'll love Pamalican Island

Why you'll love kitesurfing in Pamalican Island!

Pamalican Island Is The Ultimate Luxury Kitesurfing

Pamalican Island is the ultimate luxury kitesurfing holiday in the Philippines. It is a small, private coral island in the Sulu Sea, ringed by white sand and a shallow turquoise lagoon, and from November through to March the Amihan trade wind blows across it day after day. Put that together with one of the most beautiful island settings anywhere on the planet and a world class resort with its own kite centre, and you have a kitesurfing holiday that is very hard to match.

Pamalican Island is the ultimate luxury kitesurfing holidayThe Philippines is a fascinating country of more than 7,000 islands, and a week or so of kiting on Pamalican sits beautifully alongside time in Manila, the limestone islands of northern Palawan, or diving elsewhere in the archipelago. We can put the whole trip together for you.

Where is Pamalican Island? Pamalican lies in the Quiniluban group of the Cuyo Islands, in the north of Palawan province, roughly 360 km south west of Manila. The island is only around five kilometres long and about 500 metres across at its widest point, with five and a half kilometres of powder white beach running round it and around seven square kilometres of coral reef beyond.

The whole island is given over to one resort, Amanpulo, so there are no day trippers, no other hotels and no crowded beach. When you are on the water, the only kites in the sky are those of the handful of guests out riding with you.

Why Pamalican is so good for kitesurfing - The kiting is in the lagoon inside the reef. The water is clear, shallow and turquoise, with a mostly white sand bottom, and in much of it you can simply walk around. You launch straight off the beach, ride inside the reef and come back to the same sand. With moderate wave conditions inside the lagoon rather than open ocean swell, it suits beginners and improvers and still gives experienced riders plenty to play with.

The island is well placed for the wind. It sits right in the path of the north easterly Amihan, and the larger islands around it create a venturi effect that funnels and strengthens the breeze across the lagoon. That is a big part of why the wind here is so dependable through the season.

When to go: the Amihan season, November to March - The Amihan is the north east monsoon trade wind that sweeps across the Philippines through the northern winter. It starts to fill in during November and blows through to March, and on Pamalican the core kitesurfing season runs from December to March, when the resort's kite centre is fully up and running. This is also the Philippines' dry season, and on the Cuyo Islands January and February in particular see very little rain.

The water stays warm all season, so you will not need a wetsuit. Boardshorts or a swimsuit and a rash vest for sun protection is all you need. It is the perfect escape from a cold European winter, and for winter 2026/27 we would suggest booking early for the Christmas, New Year and February half term weeks, which go first.

Pamalican is surrounded by seven square kilometres of reef, so the snorkelling and diving start just off the beach, and hawksbill, green and olive ridley turtles nest on the island. You can take a boat out to the surrounding Cuyo islands, paddle a kayak or stand up paddleboard around the lagoon, spend an afternoon at the spa, or simply follow the sandy tracks to a quiet cove. A sunset cocktail out on the water is very hard to beat.

Combining Pamalican with the rest of the Philippines - Pamalican works well as the luxury kitesurfing centrepiece of a longer Philippines holiday. You could spend a few days in Manila on the way in, add time in northern Palawan, or pair it with Boracay, the Philippines' best known kitesurfing island, for a two centre kite trip. Tell us how long you have and what you want from the trip and we will put together the right combination.
