Bel Ombre Kitesurf Overview
Bel Ombre is a beautiful beach resort located in the south-west of Mauritius that still has the atmosphere of authentic Mauritius. The kite spot here is perfectly located at the end of Bel Ombre, right in front of the Beach Club. This spot suits all kitesurfing levels.
The spacious lagoon has flatwater, as well as waves further out at the reef. This is the perfect spot for all kitesurfers as it offers a range of good quality but affordable hotels and the Bel Ombre Kitesurf Centre. The close proximity to the main kitesurf beach and resort amenities suit holidaymakers travelling with non-kiting partners or families.
The Kitesurfing In Bel Ombre Mauritius
The wind in Bel Ombre generally blows side to side-on shore from the left. The entire area is surrounded by a reef belt, very typical for Mauritius, providing super wave conditions outside the reef and perfect flat water conditions inside.
There are some coral patches within the lagoon, so for beginners we recommend boots. From the beach you see a slightly darker long stretch of water, about 20 x 60m long, which is grass, this area is mainly for teaching lessons. Beyond this, the water turns to a beautiful turquoise colour, where it is somewhat deeper, perfect for kiters at low tide or for teaching from a boat. Here, there is an area, approximately 80m long and 8m wide, with coral that is marked with red buoys. Kiters can go over it at high tide, but are not supposed to jump or pass in low tide conditions.
In the 300m long lagoon, kiters have to pay attention as, in low tide conditions, the reef comes close to the surface. Behind this reef is the open ocean with great wave conditions for more advanced kiters.

As the watersports centre is located right at the luxury hotels in Bel Ombre, there is a range of activities available to guests. These include a range of hotel inclusive activities such as SUPing, kayaking, pedal boats, snorkelling and tennis while the renowned Heritage Golf Club here boasts a 27-hole tropical golf complex with 18-hole championship course, a 9-hole Par 3 course, exceptional practice facilities, golf academy, clubhouse, restaurant, and a golf shop.
The watersports centre here can also arrange a number of other fantastic activities such as boat trips, swims with the dolphins, surfing and wakeboarding.
