Tour Highlights
This is a perfect tour for those who want to 'spice up' a luxury ocean sports holiday to Mauritius with a bit of culture and adventure, perhaps when the trip is not all about Ocean Sports. Mauritius' sister Island of La Reunion is a unique volcanic island with stunning scenery that can be explored by foot or helicopter, so this tour included a few nights here at the start, followed by the Mauritius main island.
Days 1 - 4
4* Blue Margouillat
Half board
If you are looking to spice up your holiday to Mauritius, then a few days exploring the mountainous and lush Reunion Island is a must. The trip starts with a short hop-over flight from the main Island of Mauritius, or many international flights have good connections straight through to La Reunion. During your 3-night stay, we highly recommend a helicopter ride over the volcano and at least one day of trekking.
Reunion Island
La Réunion Island is a captivating destination in the Indian Ocean that promises an extraordinary holiday experience. This French overseas territory is a harmonious blend of dramatic landscapes, rich culture, and tropical allure. Its volcanic origins have shaped breathtaking scenery, with the active Piton de la Fournaise standing as one of its most iconic landmarks, offering thrilling hikes to its summit. The island's lush interior is dotted with waterfalls, dense forests, and the dramatic natural amphitheatres of Mafate, Salazie, and Cilaos, which are perfect for hiking, canyoning, or simply soaking in the tranquillity of nature.
For beach lovers, Réunion offers stunning stretches of sand bordered by crystal-clear lagoons protected by coral reefs. Adventure seekers will find plenty to excite them, from paragliding to exploring lava tunnels and taking scenic helicopter flights over the island's rugged terrain.
The cultural side of Réunion is just as fascinating. Its blend of Creole, African, Indian, and European influences is reflected in its vibrant festivals, music, and cuisine. Food lovers will delight in dishes like rougail saucisse, samosas, and fresh seafood, all infused with spices and flavours that reflect the island's diverse heritage.
Whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, La Réunion Island offers a unique and unforgettable holiday experience surrounded by some of the world's most stunning natural beauty.
Days 4 - 11
5* JW Marriott Mauritius Resort
Half Board
A short flight back to the main Island of Mauritius today. You will be greeted by our ground agents and taken on a scenic 1-hour drive to Le Morne, on the stunning and wild southwest point of the island. This is home to some of the very best Ocean Sports on the island, including Scuba Diving, Surf, Kitesurf, Windsurf, Wingfoil and Paddleboarding. The JW Marriott is our recommended property here, but there are some other options if the budget is tighter.
Le Morne
Mauritius is a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean, just 12 hours flight from the UK/Europe, with very little time difference. It is widely recognised as one of the very best kitesurfing destinations in the world due to reliable wind and a great variety of kitesurf conditions. Kitesurfing from down-the-line waves to a large flat water lagoon, combined with stunning luxury hotels, at excellent prices, right on the kitesurfing beach of Le Morne. Unsurprisingly, a kitesurf holiday to Mauritius is just about as perfect as it gets.
The iconic Le Morne Peninsula, nestled at the base of the majestic Le Morne Brabant Mountain, provides the perfect setting. Beginners can practice in a shallow lagoon with knee-to-waist-deep water, flat surfaces, and steady onshore winds. This area is also ideal for freestyle training. Just 200 meters away, the conditions transform with side-shore winds and light chop, offering excellent bump-and-jump opportunities. For wave riders, the reef 400 meters from shore delivers everything from beginner-friendly swells to expert-level challenges.
Le Morne Kite Lagoon - Le Morne is one of the world’s most versatile and picturesque spots for kitesurfing (as well as wingfoiling and windsurfing). The lagoon offers flat, shallow water that is perfect for beginners or improvers who want a safe, shallow area to gain confidence. New for 2025 is an impressive Kitesurf centre with a host of the newest Duotone Kitesurf equipment, as well as Wingfoil and Windsurf gear.
Le Point / JW Marriott - Right next to the JW Marriott, there is a centre for renting Kitesurf, Wingfoil and Windsurf equipment, as well as a storage facility. Planet Travel clients staying at JW Marriott benefit from free storage and safety rescue cover. This spot is for independent kitesurfers, who can confidently stay up wind.
Premium Service- For an unparalleled experience, Planet Travel clients staying at the JW Marriott can use the ‘premium services’, including private half-day sessions tailored to your needs. Guests are taken by boat to the best conditions of the day, often to secluded spots with minimal crowds. Instructors provide personalised lessons in waist-deep water, using radio communication to guide you. With a dedicated instructor and skipper, you’ll enjoy a safe, enjoyable, and luxurious learning experience.
The waves at Le Morne - Le Morne is famous for its amazing waves. There are four main wave spots, catering to all skill levels:
Little Reef: A great starting point for beginners looking to try wave riding.
Chameau and Manawa: Located farther offshore, these waves are larger and more powerful but remain accessible for intermediate riders.
One Eye: A legendary wave with shallow water and immense power, exclusively for expert riders equipped with their own gear.
The Wind in Le Morne - The prevailing winds in Le Morne blows from the east or southeast, typically offering side-shore wind from the left. During the Southern Hemisphere summer (November to March), wind speeds average 12 to 20 knots. In winter (April to October), the trade winds are stronger, reaching 15 to 26 knots plus. The winter months are especially popular among Kitesurfers due to their consistent and powerful winds.
Le Morne in Mauritius is truly an Ocean Sports paradise, offering unmatched diversity and conditions for all levels. Whether you’re just starting your kitesurfing journey or looking to conquer expert waves, Le Morne delivers an unforgettable experience in a breathtaking setting.
