Tour Highlights

Peru is one of the world best kitesurf destinations but is little know still, this is a great time to visit before it gets too popular. But if you are going to make the journey over to Peru we highly recommend at least spending a few day to visit one of the wonders of the world, Machu Picchu, which is very easily combined with Paracas.

Days 1 - 7

4* La Hacienda

On arrival at Lima airport your private transfer will take you the 3.5 hours South along the Pacific coast to Paracas, home to one of the largest and most stunning kitesurf lagoons in the world. For your time here we would suggest the La Hacienda Hotel for its prime location over looking the lagoon and it’s friendly professional character.

We think Paracas is one of the best kitesurf locations in the world, but it remains very little known. This is a great time to beat the crowds that will inevitably find their way here. The lagoon is very special as it offer perfect kitesurf conditions and stunning scenery bordering the Paracas Nature reserve

Paracas

Paracas, around 4 hours from Lima, is one of the most wind-reliable kitesurf resorts we offer, without the crowds. You can go on a kitesurfing holiday to Paracas all year. Even in the lowest wind period of May - August, there are still around 60% kiteable days! In high season, from September to April, a kitesurf holiday to Paracas will leave you exhausted from kiting every day! The temperature is around 24c to 26c in the low season, getting up to the low 30's in summer (September to March).

Paracas is a very unusual place, and it is very little known among Europeans. There are very few places on the Planet where you can find that rare combination of beautiful scenery, wildlife, luxury hotels, and world-class kitesurfing (for both flat water and waves). This location is perfect for a learn-to-kitesurf holiday, and a family kitesurf holiday. For kitesurf beginners (and Wingfoilers) the conditions are literally perfect. Super flat water, consistent medium-strength wind, and a huge area with lots of space. For families, there is a choice of 4 and 5-star beach resorts very close to the Kitesurf beach to keep the whole family happy.

Paracas is also straightforward to get to, with daily flights from all major European and North American airports to Lima, followed by a 3.5-hour raid transfer.

The main kitesurfing area is a huge flat-water lagoon that borders a nature reserve. The wind blows side-onshore from the right. If you kite to the opposite side of the lagoon, the super clean cross-offshore wind creates an amazing ‘speed spot’ with butter-flat water. Our partner kitesurf school in Paracas offers regular trips to the Nature Reserve, which has some ocean-side wave spots; this makes for a great day out.

Off the water there is also some great day or half day trips to include the Ballestas Islands and Paracas Reserve:

THE BALLESTAS ISLANDS - sometime referred to as a mini Galapago, is home to more than 150 species of marine birds and colonies of hundreds of endangered Humboldt Penguins, fur seals, sealions, and endangered marine otters, all jostling for space on the rocks. From January to March the sealion population grows even greater as baby sealions are born. Occasional dolphin packs pass through the waters, and with special luck one might have the chance to see an endangered Andean Condor, the world’s largest bird of flight, or a humpback whale.

PARACAS NATIONAL PARK - one of two Protected Natural Areas that preserves samples representing Peru's coastal marine ecosystems. The Park contains land, a large part of the Paracas desert, islands and the sea. Besides protecting great biological diversity, the Park also contains various archaeological sites from the Paracas pre-Inca culture, which existed in large part of what is now the reserve. The Park stretches over 335,000 hectares (827,803 acres), 35% of which comprises dry land and islands, and 65% of which is sea.

The Park is also ideal for bird watchers, as well as for those who enjoy walks and adventures in natural settings. The reserve contains an Interpretation Center which provides information on biodiversity, ecosystems and protecting endangered species in the zone.

But this country is more than just incredible kitesurfing, from Lima you can easily reach The Amazon, and Machu Picchu, making for an incredible holiday combination. For those who are really into Kitesurfing Waves, the world-class spots of Pacasmayo and Mancora can also be combined with Paracas. See our ‘suggest tour below’, or speak to one of our Peru kitesurf holiday specialists who can construct the perfect Peru itinerary to fit your budget and requirements. As always, we have been to all the locations we offer, both on and off the water, so you can be sure of an amazing holiday experience when booking with Planet!

Days 7 - 9

5* Hotel Monasterio

Bed & Breakfast

To get to Cusco, the staging post for Machu Picchu, we will transfer you the 3.5 hours back from Paracas to Lima Airport for a short internal flights that lands in the heart of Cusco.

Upon arrival to Cusco's airport our representative will assist you with your luggage and drive you to the hotel. For today you will relax after your journey, perhaps explore some of the streets and shops around the town or try one of the many excellent restaurant.

For your first full day in Cusco we will arrange a private city tour, including a visit to the district of San Blas, with its winding streets, the whitewashed houses, the blue balconies hung with geranium-filled flowerpots, the uneven line of the tiled rooftops and the endless stairways. In the neighborhood live the folk artists of Cusco, who for centuries have used their hands to tell the tale of their longings and frustrations working in stone and woodcarving, sculpture, doll-making, silverware, weaving and textile arts, gold-leaf, mask-making, and an array of ceramics in utilitarian, architectural, sculptural, monumental, grotesque and many other styles.
Continue with a visit to the Cathedral and the Korikancha temple.

Cusco and Sacred Valley

Cusco is a beautiful city in the mountains of southern Peru. It was once the capital of the Inca Empire and is now a popular place for tourists. The city is full of history, with narrow streets, old buildings, and a mix of Inca and Spanish culture. Walking around Cusco, you will see stone walls built by the Incas, colourful markets, and people wearing traditional clothes.

One of the main sights to visit is Machu Picchu, the famous Inca city on a mountain. You can get there by train or by walking the Inca Trail, which takes several days. In Cusco itself, you should visit Sacsayhuamán, an impressive Inca fortress with big stone blocks. The Plaza de Armas, the main square, is also a great place to relax and see churches like the Cathedral of Cusco. Another important place is Qorikancha, an old Inca temple that was turned into a church by the Spanish. You can also explore the Sacred Valley, which has beautiful villages, markets, and more Inca ruins.

The best time to visit Cusco is from May to September. During these months, the weather is dry and sunny, perfect for walking and sightseeing. June is especially good because of the Inti Raymi festival, an Inca celebration of the sun.
The not so good time to visit is from November to March, because this is the rainy season. It can rain a lot, especially in January and February, and some roads or hiking trails might be closed. However, there are fewer tourists during this time, so the city is quieter.

Days 9 - 10

5* Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Your private guide will meet you at your hotel very early this morning. You will be transferred to Cusco train station to board the Vistadome train, for a dramatic train ride to Machu Picchu (6180 feet), the great mountain-top city abandoned by the Inca Empire, reclaimed by the jungle and lost to humanity until its rediscovery in 1911. The legendary 'Lost City of Machu Picchu' is without a doubt the one of the world's most impressive archaeological sites. Built by the Incas on the summit of "Machu Picchu" (Old Peak), overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba river in a semi-tropical area 120 Km. (75 miles) from the city of Cuzco at 7,000 feet above sea level. It sits on a mountain site of extraordinary beauty, in the middle of a tropical mountain cloud forest; Machu Picchu was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height, with its giant walls, terraces and ramps, which appear as though they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. Machu Picchu is also one of the Inca's best kept secrets, since they did not left written records and Spanish chronicles make no mention of the citadel, it remains a mystery.

Upon arrival to the ruins, you will begin a private guided tour  of the lost citadel. For the most adventurous people, we suggest to go up the Huayna Picchu (if it is not raining) from where you can appreciate the immensity of Machu Picchu, even more amazing being high and distant. Arriving at the top takes about two hours and a half and it must be before 13:00 hours. It is necessary to register in an office at the beginning of the trail.

Lunch at MachuPicchu Sanctuary Lodge and then afternoon return to Cusco by train accompanied by your private guide. Upon arrival at Cusco train station you will be met by your private driver who will transfer you to you the hotel.  Dinner and overnight.

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is one of the most famous places in South America. It is an old Inca city high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, near the town of Aguas Calientes. Many tourists visit it every year to see the incredible stone buildings and beautiful views. The city was built by the Incas in the 1400s and was later forgotten for many years until it was found again in 1911. Now it is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

When you visit Machu Picchu, the main sight is the whole lost city itself. You can walk among the stone houses, temples, and terraces built on the mountain. One special place is the Temple of the Sun, which the Incas used to honour the sun god. Another important spot is the Intihuatana stone, a carved rock that may have been used as a kind of sun clock. You can also see the Room of the Three Windows, which has a lovely view of the mountains. For those who enjoy walking, you can climb Huayna Picchu, the tall mountain behind Machu Picchu, or Machu Picchu Mountain, both offering amazing views from the top.

The best time to visit Machu Picchu is from May to September, when the weather is dry and the skies are usually clear. This makes it easier to hike and take photos. June, July, and August are the busiest months, so it is a good idea to book your ticket early.

The not so good time to visit is from November to March, which is the rainy season. It often rains during these months, and the paths can be muddy and slippery. In February, the Inca Trail is usually closed for maintenance, so if you want to hike it, avoid that month.
